Chip from PCM's for Less

Hello,

I finished my restoration but having a ton of driveability issues. The car feels as if it has no power, will backfire, and overall just is not good. However, it does have moments where it feels like everything is okay.

I ordered the chip from PCM's for Less. When I connected to my computer with TTS Datamaster it showed that the advance was at 22 degrees at warm idle. Ist this normal or is something wrong with the chip/computer?

Thanks!
Josh

Who knows. I usually run a lean idle with a ton of advance (24-26*). Who knows what Alvin does.

The timing is in the ballpark, but its hard to say how the rest of the tune is. Youd have to get a wideband and hook it up, as well as look at the rest of the timing. The ammount of timing needed depends on the CR, comb. chamber, AFR, etc, and needs to be tailored to each motor.

Re: Chip from PCM's for Less

Thanks for the input! I know that Alvin knows what he is doing and am not blaming him at all but I am just at a loss to determine why the car is such a slug and running out of things to check.

Engine specs: 357 CI with hyperpuretic pistons, running 10.5:1 compression with around 8.25:1 dynamic. Lingenfelter 74216 cam, AFR 180 heads with Harland sharp 1.6 roller rockers. Accel high flow intake manifold and runners. The plenum is ported with 52mm throttle body. Running headers and 3" magnaflow exhaust.

Right now, my 2004 Grand Prix with the 3.8 would decimate my GTA.

I have lashed the valves, replaced ALL sensors except speed sensor, set initial timing back to 6 degree BTDC. I am not getting an knock counts.

I am not sure how to do it but is there a way to upload the data log?

It could be the tune. The car is speed density, so its impossible to determine what the VE tables should look like through the internet. Thats something that has to be determined by experimentation. If the fueling is way off, it will slow the car down a lot, and potentially damage the engine.

Re: Chip from PCM's for Less

Time to look into some chip burning of your own. VE tables are hard to get close over internet mail order. MAF is alittle easier and PCMforless has done better at that but Speed Density is difficult

Re: Chip from PCM's for Less

I would like to learn how to burn chips but do not know where to start. I guess I need to start reading!!!

Do you think a dyno tune would be the answer or would further adjustments be needed.

I had a similar issue like this, turned out the whole ECM was bad. I had replaced the PROM, checked every sensor, set timing, reset timing, and double checked everything. Last ditch effort, replaced ECM and BOOM. she ran like a dream. Just my $0.02.
