Re: megasquirt tpi conversion

First off, you need to search for broad topics such as this before posting this very broad question. There are many threads on this site covering this:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/dfi-...asquirtii.html
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/dfi-...t-350-tpi.html
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/dfi-...ful-hints.html

There is also this article on diyautotune:
http://www.diyautotune.com/tech_arti...lock_v8_v6.htm

You def will need to check out the msefi web pages.

ms1 is not fuel only , u just need to run the ms1 extra code

the wiring between ms1 and ms2 is slightly different

here s athread that may intrest u as we r helping a fellow v6 member install and ms1 w extra code on his v6
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/v6/6...rbo-2-8-a.html

while it is a v6 the setup and wiring is identical , the only difference is he has 2 less injectors

It sounds like you are splitting hairs. In that case I am still correct and you are the opposite. MSI is fuel only, MSI extra is fuel and spark.

ms1 is the designation for the cpu

the cpu itself runs fuel and spark or fuel only, or spark only depending on the config

b&g base code has been outdated and unused for years , this is the fuel only code

Re: megasquirt tpi conversion

...Back to trying to answer Damion Allen's question...
Are you buying the build it yourself board or the already completed one? For wiring the coil your two eaiest options are spelled out in the megamanual
GM HEI http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/GM_7pinHEI.htm
Direct coil control http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/vb921.htm

Make this decision early as it effects what you install on the board.

I myself went with the direct coil control as it gives me the most control with the easiest execution. Basicaly the the connectors on the side of the HEI cap I left in place. I routed a wire on the (-) of the coil inside the cap (undernieth the rotor) to the relay board (or megasquirt). I am using the same connection as the ignition module (-) (which I had removed previously.)

I went with the hei 7/8 pin setup, running ms1 extra code. Works great. Boils down to personal preference, and i made a table of contents page on my thread for easy access to whats in the thread. Its the Another turbo 2.8 thread project linked.

I went for the ms1 processor cause i wasnt worried about the IAC valve, if you want to keep your IAC youd have to go with a ms2 processor. If your good with electronics and a soldering iron, id shoot for the v3.0 board, its a build it yourself option thats a little cheaper and has a prototype area for additional circuits. I didnt use the relay board, reused the stock relays, so you have a bunch of options to say the least.

Btw, im running ms1 fuel and spark. Its the code that allows you to run fuel and spark, so its still ms1, just running the extra code to control everything. Once you really get into it it gets easier. My car is running and driving, once i replace the burnt ICM, lol.
