Need help with prom

Hello, I am trying to help out my Dad with an issue when he swapped his ECU in his 1986 irocz z28 camaro, it has the stock TPI 305 in it vin code F. The issue is he has received two different ECUs from summit racing, as you all already know they are now updated from the originals when you receive a remanufactured one. The issue is when he received his remanufactured ECU from summit the insert that the 14 pin prom chip sits in was missing. I'm guessing that someone previously had taken it out, sadly my Dad can't install his factory prom chip from his stock ECU without that insert. My question I would really appreciate an answer for is what other prom inserts can be used to install the 14 pin factory AC Delco chip into the ECU ? Thanks ahead of time for any help with this.

Re: Need help with prom

Should have a 1227165 or superseded number. Doesn’t use a calpak. The netress and prom are in a memcal.
got a picture of what you have and service number?

That's what I meant. 14 on the bottom & 14 on the top, sorry I didn't clarify that.

Re: Need help with prom

The prom isn't what's missing, we have the 28 pin prom. The insert is what's missing that the prom fits into & then the insert with the prom snaps into the housing on the back of the ECU.

Your replacement must be the wrong service number.

Re: Need help with prom

This is the replacement remanufactured ECU from summit racing. The left side is where the prom goes but the insert that the prom goes into is what's missing. The chip fits into the insert & then they snap into the housing on the bottom left.

This is my Dad's stock ECU. 1986 irocz z28 camaro, TPI 305, vin code F

Re: Need help with prom

Wrong ecm you need a 1227165 , or 16198259,88999194,16198445
or cardone 77-7165, 776571
blue streak em7165

Re: Need help with prom

The '9128 that Summit sent you is for an '85 TPI car. It won't work in your Dads '86, which uses an entirely different ECM.

RBob.

Ok, thanks for the information. It just makes no sense that summit racing can't send out the right one to begin with.

If you look at the application listing on there site for your ecm you purchased it says 86-89 tpi. Not correct.

Re

What would cause my Dad's 1986 irocz camaro's cooling fans to run constantly while running after replacing the ecm ? He has the correct one now, it's a cardone & he got it from o'reilly's. Thanks for the help ahead of time.

Re: Need help with prom

Have a scanner to see if fan is being commanded on ?
if it comes on when key on engine off could be a bad ecm.
