what to change to compliment a 160 stat?

Sorry... I searched and came up empty handed. I put a 160 stat into the IROC, and now it's time to burn my first prom. I'm keeping it mild just so that I can get the car running well enough to make sure my other mods are performing properly. Anyway... what do I need to change to compliment the 160 stat? What fan turn on/off temps? Anything else? Thanks.

Jim,

I don't know for sure, but I would lower the fan temps just as you would if running a stock T-stat. Personally, I think 160 is a bit low. There was a lot of discussion on this topic about a year ago on corvetteforum.com and there seemed to be good reasons to keep the t-stat at 180*. I'm running the stock thermostat in my GTA and have fan temps at 211/201 (I think). I'll probablly bring them down another 5* next time I burn.

Do you remember why they decided that the 160 wasn't preferred? I have no interest in winter heat production. The car is a summer car only.

There are a variety of "learn" temperatures that you should look at. IAC Learn is a good one. Generally, it is won't enable until over 80*C.

There is a lot of other little "gotchas". I would recommend looking at the applicable "hack" and doing a "search" on "CTS" and reviewing every variable that is tested/affected by the CTS. There is quite a few and many do affect overall driveability.

On a personal note, I tried them all and eventually settled on 180*F. I found that when properly tuned there was minimal differences. After reading the "negative aspects" of a 160*F t-stat, and with no performance advantage over a 180*F (when properly tuned), I decided to go 180*F.

Thanks for the heads-up. I did a lot of reading from what I found in the search, and I've decided that at least for now, a 180 will be a better idea. I can try the 160 for myself when I get everything else in order. I don't need drivability problems from the stat while I'm trying to diagnose how the car runs with my new mods. So anyway... one of your replies that I read after doing the search said that you've got your fans set to come on/off at 80*/83* C if memory serves me. Let's see... that translates into 176/181* F. What other changes should I consider necessary for making the 180 stat work properly? Fuel/timing tables I plan to tackle at a later date; right now I just want a relatively stock-ish PROM that'll get the car running well so I can verify that all of my mods/harness/sensors are functioning properly. Thanks.

I'm going to be running a 165. The first PROM that I'm buring is going to be one from TPI_ROC that is essentially the ARAP with the AUJN timing tables. 24lb injector constant, lower fan temp, and I may play with idle characteristics and other manual-transmission specific changes. Nothing major. I just want the car to run well so I can get it out of the garage, verify that my new junk works, then sit there while I tear into my spare T5 .

well the stat only heats up your car. only useful during winter. It keeps the water that in the enigine in the engine until it warms up.then it opens and stays at 195 or 180 or 160. and keeps the coolant flowing
