First off, I have read EVERY post I could find...

I have made several two transistor ALDL cables to interface with my 7730. Both work like a champ with Motes Dos based program and my 166 MHZ Labptop with Win 98SE. I have never had a problem with the cable. I also made a MAX 232 cable, (however, not real sure about this one because craigs program wouldn't work with it)

However, I can not get it to work with TunerPro RT or TTS Datamaster or their ALDL TEST program. I have tried everything I can possibly think of. The laptop is set with all other ports shut off except COM 1, In windows all ports shut off except Com 1. I have the .dll necessary for tuner pro located in the proper directory. None of the above programs recoginize the connection. The ALDL TEST program diagnostics say cable failed.
Once again Craigs software works great.

I even borrowed my neighgors laptop, 1.4 mhz Win XP to try the above programs and still no luck.

Boy am I fustrated.... I am postive (POSITIVE) I have my 2 transistor cable built properly( I have triple checked it with the schematic and even replaced the transistors just to be safe.)

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really want to utilize a nice win based program...(thank goodness that at least the Dos based program works)

In tunerpro, did you select the proper com port and adapter type?

I think it's under preferences or something like that.

If your adapter will work with moates, then the problem has to be software related.

Also, the aldl tester program doesn't work (at least with my cables)

It will tell me my cable passes all tests even without the cable plugged into my computer...

Good luck

In datamaster it says when I click on test com.

ALDL cable working properly, however unrecoginized data may be of unsupported pcm.

????? I have it set for a 7730, infact that is all that this demo version will run.

If I try to connect It keeps on cycling thru saying trying to connect to pcm over and over. If I shut off the car while it is doing this the indicator turns red, and says waiting. Which I take as that the program recoginizes that there is no data being sent.

Could there be a problem with my ecm? Even though it works with craigs software?

In this last test I even lugged my desktop out to the car, exact same results as my laptop and my neigbors laptop?

It seems like it is some sort of syncing problem......

anyone Help?????????????????????????

Did you make the 232 cable with the "extra" diodes in it? They may be the key.

so do the 2 transistor cables work with Moates stuff and not with either of the other two?

You can try running 12 volts to the power supply of the max232 design, I use a similar one, and decided against trying to use the serial port as a 12 volt source. made a quick cig lighter pigtail and wired it in(at the 'in' of U1) works good for tunerpro.... don't have datamaster, so dunno how that would work.

the cig lighter adapter is available at radio shack.

2 trans will work with tunerpro, don't know about the other one.

Definately want to check the output of the rs232 port, definately has to be at least 12v for the 2 trans, or 5v for the max232 circuit.

My laptop was only 7.3v for rx or tx output on the rs port.

If I am powering from a 12 volt sorce on the car will this make a difference?

My 2 transistor Cable would work untill I Grabed Power From a Known 12+ source. So It is on the Cig Plug now.

Just my

Not as long as the adapter is grounded to the vehicle chassis as well as the laptop ground. The schematic is designed this way anyways, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Good luck with it, and keep us updated. I've been having a very similar issue that I suspect to be a bad serial data output on the ECM. I have the new ECM sitting here next to me, but haven't had a chance to pop it in yet.

I went to the JY and picked up another 7730, NO Luck still the same problem. I even burned a new chip to see if it was chip related, NO LUCK...................

Fustrated...............
