Link and Thread Suggestions Needed for the Prom Tuning Guide Book and FAQ
This is here as a reference to enable forum users to voice suggestions and post thread links for consideration into the Prom Burning Guide Book and FAQ
I need working links for Gurmpy's Tuning 101 and some for $60 code applications and threads as well as working links to both of the above.
Also trying to put together a vendor links listing in the appropriate chapters and also possibly a whole vendors addendum at some point.
We need your cooperation, as you all well know the "search function" is not exactly healthy at this point and time. Both Rbob and I have had issues attempting to find some old posts.
Please make sure you include a valid link when you post your suggestion, it will be appreciated and reviewed for inclusion.
Thank You
The Mod Squad

Hi Mod Squad,
I'd suggest an Introduction about reading, at first, what the car is doing previous to start with modifications. It only was my experiencie: I started with modifications before to scann the ECM.
For this Introduction you can extracts parts from the TRAX article and Craig Moates web site included in this guide.
Note that I don't know if this suggest is off topic because if the car owner agree with his car is doing, he don't needs this guide...

a.) Understanding your system and its parts
Maybe use http://www.chevythunder.com (my favorite)
and/or similar TPI/TBI sites
b.) Scan tools and seeing what is going on
http://www.supportfitness.com/mark/tunerpro/
http://www.ttspowersystems.com
Add others ....
c.) Identify your system control
http://www.diy-efi.org/gmecm/
http://www.cruzers.com/~ludis/p4xref.html
http://www.efitune.com/broadcast_codes/
d.) Links to information on processor
http://www.dewtronics.com/cgi-bin/motorola.pl?
e.) Links to Documents and Hacs ?
http://sunflower.com/~leroy/P4/
http://www.geocities.com/ecmguy.geo/bruce/prog_101.html (probly have that already)
*******************************
EDIT ADDED : http://www.diy-efi.org/gmecm/ecm_inf...730/qanda.html
nice writup that shouldn't be lost in the shuffle.
*******************************
f.) Links to file locations
ftp://ftp.diy-efi.org/pub/gmecm/bin_lib/
... Moates, and others
I don't know if putting specific link up is "allowed" or wanted because you may not want to seem like you're advertising for products.
Scan tool questions seem to come up too much for the subject. If there was a listing of as many or all known products, the user can choose and it wouldn't be biased.

Thanks JP86SS,
Thats exactly the kind of stuff we are looking for. We do plan on making as many links as possible work. Whether it be for commercial or freeware as long as said product is in good standing in the community we plan to include it and not play favorites. We already do since we are the DIY PROM board lol.
Thanks for the links, they will be checked out and reviewed and hopefully posted into the appropriate link/chapter.
Now, where is everyone elses wish list and articles? :-)
We know they are out there and with the search engine here at thirdgen of questionable health, we need your help.
later and thanks
Jeremy

This one has a few good links in it. And I'll stop messing with my patch eventually and paste the code.
Tables
Good src info
Registers
Op Code maps
This may already exist. And I've never looked specifically for it. But there are a lot of what bcc ? posts.
A short list of what bin goes to what car might be helpful.
A general comment of "latest F body 350 A4" or similar maybe.

I did a search and just came across a nice writeup by Vader.
Seems like something that shouldn't be lost in the shuffle.
https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=186463
Maybe rename it as "coolant temp" or something.

Just wanted to say thanks guys. We appreicate the input and while I have been adding material as I come across it and have time, I havent forgotten about the stuff in this link.
It will get categorized and added as I sift thru it and get time to paste it in the Guide Book
Added this week: All BCC(broadcast) codes from the FAQ are included so no one needs to ask what prom/chip is in my car.
Also Mangus excellent reply to some issues I was having w/ emulating/datalogging on one laptop and all the current options available.
Thanks

Yes, well I , Rbob and Glenn certainly try lol
It was a pia to actually verify all the links as I added them and expanded the original stickies into chapters. Trax left us a good base to work of of and as we expand it, it will only get better.
If you have comments and link/thread suggestions, thats what this post is here for.
thanks to all those who contributed and for the kind words

hmmm Some more nice posts to add :-)
When I get a cance this weekend consider them added.
If they are any concrete VATS posts i will link them, but be warned, we dont want to give away to much VATS inof if u catch my drift :-)
Hmm I'll also check about the wideband patches for the 165 and 730, but i think they are linked already.

I don't know where to put this one.
Another Rbob jewel
And a good Vats post still proves to be MIA.
I did find a good "why would I?" post.
Stumble over them all the time while looking for other things.

Suggestion: Include the words "BCC" and "Broadcast Code" for the "Bin Search Engine". It took me a while to find the site in my old notes because I was not smart enough to look for "Bin"

Lots of questions on socketing boards for flash chips lately.
Could you swing them up on here as you come acoss them so I can add them to the Guide?
thanks

Just some random thoughts... that have helped me out...
Like finally reading that ALL hardware for 7747 ECMs are the same. (and 8746) ECM code is slighly different.. (now it makes complete sense, and how could i even have questioned that ) but at the time it didnt make sense..
a different PROM is just a different TUNE and the same masks are interchangeable..
More updates on OLD posts/topics...
Elec. fan on 8746/7747 I see mentions of 'testing' in 2002..... but no followups that i can find...
Any other cool hacking updates ? or have you senior guys moved on to newer (faster) ECMs....
Any comments on the difference (history?) of the .ECU vs the .XDF.. are they the same but different. Ive tried to decifer this from all ive read with no luck.
Do some just free edit the bin pencil/paper with Hex editor?
I'm trying to come up to speed with my AUToPROM and RTuner setup and half the time im not even sure im loading the right files at the right time...
Still love the site, learn somthing every visit here..... Thanks -mike

Nice explaination of the o2 windows and what they are for.

I really could use some advice...

Thank You

I think this post may be worth adding:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...highlight=apys
They discussed why the speedometer reading and datalogged reading were different. Also how the speedo cable works, sends a reading to the ECM, and how it controls the speedo needle. Then he found a way to self calibrate the actual speedo needle with success. I would imagine that this is a popular issue with people, it is with me!

Re: Link and Thread Suggestions Needed for the Prom Burning Guide Book and FAQ
OK so I'm definitely a newbie. I've read the entire prom burning guide and a hundred other posts. I still was so far from understanding any of it until I found this one. Its not even in DIY prom section. It didn't even apply to my ecm or code, but it filled in all the blanks spelled out the principals of tuning so well it didn't matter if applied. I understood. So the title sucks and when you read the long post toward the end you find out the guy just gives up on the post. I was so disappointed. But still a must read for any beginner.

Re: Link and Thread Suggestions Needed for the Prom Tuning Guide Book and FAQ
I found some useful information on the Delphi website, strangely the website indicates that some of the 1227727 connectors may still be able to be purchased. But, who knows how large of a quantity you would have to order for them to manufacture the connectors again. The attachment has part numbers for connectors, connector seals, pins, wire seals, and crimping tools.

You can find AZTY, which is the latest BIN for the 3.1l with an automatic transmission here:
http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~davis/z28
I just checked it and it is unmodified. In the future please start a thread in the main board area, not in a sticky.
RBob.
