Need Help with $32B to $6E

Im very new to the tuning game and I need help with a few questions.

I have a 87 350 TPI which runs the stock $32B with the ABWN bin.

The engine has some work done(head work, removed smog, headers, MSD...) and I have replaced the 700R4 with a T56. The car runs on the stock bin but not very well. Its very tempermental when its cold, but once it warms up its not to bad. I know its running rich and it boggs alot off the line.

I opened this up the stock bin in TunerPro and couldnt figure out where to start changing the stuff for manual transmission, air... From other posts that Ive read it looks like there isnt much support for the $32B mask and most people switch to the $6E mask.

Thats where my question is, can I use the $6E mask and modify a bin for it then throw it in the car and it will work? Is there anything else I have to do? or will it just work because its the same ecm?

I realize I need to unplug the 9th injector and that will eventualy be removed and blocked off, but what else needs to be done?

I converted my dad's 88 IROC over to $6E without ever even lifting the hood. We left the 9th injector plugged in and it hasn't been a problem. Car runs FAR better on this calibration than it did on the stock 88 calibration, and the car is completely stock at that.

Some applications will need minor BIN changes - i think there is a normally open/normally closed fan switch setting in there, and I can't remember off the top of my head if I had to change it or not.

I'd suggest a manual 6E bin as your starting point.

I converted my 86 over to 6E. I too left the 9th injector plugged in, but I did lower the afterstart enrichment numbers a little to compensate, also lowered the idle speed and the fan on temp.
Car runs alot better than it did with the stock 86 programing.

Ditto. My '86 still has the CSI and is running $6E with a bin loosely based on ARAP.

I've got an '87 (vette) with a mini ram 383. Autoprom should arrive this week. Is converting from $32B to $6E recommended? What is involved and what are the benefits?

PonyKiller87 - what did you end up doing and how did you make out?

Thanks!

Based on the info from this post I started working with a $6E Bin file. Using TunerPro I did some comparing between a Vette with L98 and Manual and a Fbody with L98 and auto. Im pretty sure I have all the transmission related things switched to work better with the T56 that I have in my car. My only issue is I cant get my AutoProm to burn the chip. That and I haven't had much time to work with it. Hopefully I will get that sorted out soon though because its getting nice out and the car is begging to come out of the garage.

I'm right there with ya! Hopefully within the next week or so, I can get started on the initial programming so I can at least drive the car when its nice out.

From everything I've read, the consensus seems to be to go with the $6E mask / bin.

Good luck!

Hey guys, I am trying to get into burning my own PROMS... I have a 87 305 Camaro that from what I gather runs the 32B... I am glad I read this post if there is not much support for it and everyone switches.

Just curious if someone could post a link or tell me a little bit more about the $6E. Is this what they switched to in the early 90s?

Thanks for your help!

They switched to 6E in 1989 and if you look in the stickies section it should tell most of what you need to know about it. Most guys seem to want to switch to Speed Density (90-92) but they are running big motors. For a basic stocker to a ZZ4 level cam MAF works fine. The main advantage of using it seems to be the ability to get rid of the cold start injector and it is easier to tune. Read all the stickies and you will get a realy good idea of what you will need to do to make it work for your car.

Speaking of working on my car........ I need to get going on mine, it's been sitting in the garage for about five months because I haven't had time to work on it.....
