Anyone ever have a bin file go bad?

I set out to do some data logging this afternoon (I was also emulating with AutoProm / TunerPro RT) and 1/2 mile into my trip, my laptop battery craps out and the lap top freezes up. The car started running real rough, so I stopped emulating, disconnected the USB & ALDL cables and cruised around for 10 minutes just for the heck of it. It ran ok, not great.

After a battery recharge, I tried to do it all over again using the same bin. It fired right up, but idled really high (1800, target was reading 1000) and timing advance on TunerPro was showing 60, 70, 80, then 90 degrees!!!! The other numbers started looking way out of range, too. So I shut it off, reviewed the bin for any weird data entries and it looked fine. Tried to start it up and it wouldn't start - just kept cranking. Then I uploaded a stock apyp bin to AutoProm and it fired right up and actually ran smooth!

Have you guys ever encountered anything like this, where a bin file becomes "corrupt" (for lack of a better term) after a problem with your lap top, etc?

Under emulation the ecm cycles dont stop for you.

If u save/open/connect/disconnect/etc at the right moment, forget about it.

Most of the time, a reload from a non corrupted source will fix it.

Bins just get corrupted every now and than too, seem a little more susceptible to glitches on ecm's than other files also

Its just one of those things u live with.

$8D and a Romulator love to stick the Purge on or off on you :-)

Alway always save your working file seperately from where u are actually using it.

Yep, have had it happen before...
I use an inverter or converter now, to prevent that.
Like Jeremy said, you also need to save each .bin as you go unless you don't mind losing them.

Thanks guys - glad to know its not an uncommon event. Fortunately I had a backup copy of the bin on my PC, so I'm right back to where I was yesterday.

lol

Sounds like normal tinkering by people who cant leave things alone to me:-)

Any lose of power or severe fluctuations are another good one that seem to consistently beat bins down.

Not totally the same but, i built a new PC and i backed up my old one before i parted it. With my new 160GB HDD i reinstalled everything back onto the new PC. Now not ONE of my .bin files will load up with Xtronics PP2. If it isnt a fresh .bin since the new PC build, PP2 says "error loading buffer".

Actually jeremy im too poor to afford XP (thats hod rod parts) so i stayed with Win 2K. Im pretty fond it and i dont like venturing out when im happy with something.

Do you think i might still need the updates? (if i dont already have them) I had quit a few tunes i really liked and ALL of my T-Pro RT .adl files wont work from my datalogs either.

Thanks, Brian
