Im having issues with my PCM and need experienced help

first off here is what i have. a 350 tpi *built* motor with an oem replacement ECM (model 7-7165, calibration is 0402AR). 1988 Trans Am GTA.

one day i decided to take apart my ecm (pull it ouf or the car and remove the prom[pcm?]) and then i put it back in and took my new aldl cable from moats and hooked it all up to my laptop. Next i used datamaster tester to test it and after playing with the switch on the moates adapter i got it to work. Started datalogging with datamaster and then all the sudden the car died and wouldn't start back up. I pop the hood and find a wire connecting to my coil had jiggled loose from vibration so i plug that back in and go to the laptop and try to start it and check it again. Wont run on its own unless i throttle it myself. Next i tried to scan the aldl again and it says that i have an unrecognizable pcm and fails all the aldl connection tests. So after quite a few trials later i burn some chips and put them in and no matter what im still getting the same no run issues and lack of performance, as well as no aldl connections!!. Now i have got it to run on its own but i had to adjust the throttle screw a lot and it doesn't run like it did before i did all this damn ecm crap!!

not having any SES flashing or nothing.

i need help please!
-a sad gearhead

1) remove the memcal and re-insert it and verify it's fully installed.
2) look for a check engine light with key on, engine NOT running.
>> no light? check the bulb.
>>> still no light? check power to the ECM.
>>>> still no light? replace ECM.

just my opinion on how i'd approach it. ECM's rarely fail but if you had coil wires loose, who knows where you threw sparks to or what fried.

I tried all the above. When i turn the ignition key to ON i get a steady on SES, and the car wont start.

is this just a bad prom? on the ecm it says NUMBER : 7-7165 and under that it says CALIBRATION : 0402AR

Do you have the new chips installed in a ZIF socket? If so, are they inserted into the ZIF correctly? There's a picture at the bottom of this page:

Have you tried burning the stock .bin back to the chip to see if it works? Maybe the programmer isnt working like it should.

the stock chip wasn't working, thats why i started burning chips and the stock chip isn't a stock chip... its a chip from TPIS.

Are you recalculating the checksum after making changes or putting "AA" in the mask ID to not throw the error?
IIRC it would be error code 51 for bad memcal.

i really dont know how to read error codes on my computer. I DID get my old prom to work though! the SES light is on when i turn the key to on position but when i start it it goes away, and im able to logg aldl now. ALthough while i was driving the chip did freze or something and went into limp mode and the aldl stopped logging. after letting it sit for a while it started working again. so im not sure. my 02 volts are reading in the 400s and 02 xcnts are reading in the 200s is this good or bad?
