BBJ,

Two of the reasons that the MiniRam gets bad publicity for low RPM operation are...

1) Tuning
2) Gearing/Stall

You have to tune and gear the car appropriately.

On the street with drag radials and all of my traction mods (see web page) I can roast the tires through all of first and most of second. How's that for torque? I am running a 2800 stall converter and 3.73 gears.

It drives completely normal to me on the street. I am running a custom PROM that I designed myself.

Check my webpage in my sig for my cam and my mods.

TRAX, Cool, Im runnin 3.73s myself and will probably end up with one of those expensive Precision Vigilante converters....LOL....I saw in one of your posts you plan on a 224/230 cam swap. Ive been told by a few people that that is too much duration for basically stock compression engine. True or false? I plan on around 10.25 comp with the 58cc heads and thinner than stock gasket. Could I run that much duration with only 10.25? Sorry for all the questions...guess I took the opinions from our intake makers a bit too serious, they say the ZZ9 is the best stick for a stock compressioned mini rammed 350. Im starting to think they are talking a bunch of #%&@.

Yes, it is very true that you want to increase static compression when increasing the duration of the camshaft. But, my car isn't stock compression :-) Although I am running the stock pistons ... my heads are 60cc and not 64cc. That's about a half point difference in compression. I am running about 10.25

The 224 cam will work AOK with that compression.

TRAX.....you must be running a thinner head gasket too. You got me thinkin now if I should go a bit longer on the duration than that 219 Lingenfelter stick. BTW.... if I were to go with say....58cc and a thinner gasket (the ones TPIS sells) would I run into any piston to valve clearance problems? Better to be safe than sorry... John

BBJ,

If you have a MiniRam motor than a 220+ duration cam would rock. I wouldn't go any higher than 226 (which is darn high). Regarding compression ... just use the stock FelPro gasket with a 58cc head on a 350 and you will have PLENTY of compression. No need to go to a thinner head gasket. I am running a stock type felpro head gasket (#1010) with 60cc chambers and it is obviously enough compression for my motor

Well, I think I am going to try the ZZ-409 (.520/226/287 adv.) to go along with my 65cc Canfield 197s. This should make for an awesome package with the mini-ram. For some reason, I am still concerned that I may not have enough compression (9.8) What's your thoughts on this TRAXION? P.S. I've got plenty of gear and converter.

BBJ,

Yes, I agree with you. If you are going to run heads that have chambers that big then your compression will not be high enough. I would run a thinner head gasket if you run those canfield heads ... or, have the canfield heads milled down to 60 or 58cc.

Tim......... the 9.8 compression is with the thinner gasket. Stock compression is 9.3 on a '88 L98 unless I'm mistaken. The problem with milling the heads is that the design of the Canfield heads does not allow for any milling ( I think ). So, at this point, I think 9.8s about it till I do a lower end rebuild.Do you still think I'll be alright with the ZZ-409?....... John

I think the zz409 or something similar would be perfect for your setup. I know the computer on my car is all horked up but I can still tell the miniram would love more cam than what I have.
