AT29C256 chips

Just wanted to post a quick line that I finally got to use the AT29C256 chips (Thanks Dan!!). Very nice. I had a small problem with being able to program the chips but after shutting down ALL of my windows programs (including the control panel programs) they program easily and without problems (over and over and over again). I did not have to program the chips with FF's first and I did not have to restart the program. The key for me was to ensure that all windows programs were completely exited.

As a side note - I have my big cam / big head / big stall car running very well. So, don't fear the big cams with speed density. I have my 230/245 113LSA cam purring like a kitten on my stock bottom ended 350

Gunning for NA 11's with bigger cam, bigger stall, and bigger exhaust.

Traxio, have you had a chance to run the car at the track? Do you think you'll get that 11? I hope so, thats a fast N/A car, especially on stock bottom end.
Good Luck

Tim,
Yep those At256's are awsome huh?
I saw forget the zif socket(didn't have one), and just soldered the flash prom in the carrier!
The SD beats the crap out of my MAF setup i had. I'm just having some problems getting the VE tables down.. I'm trying to make an evenly proportioned table with the process that you use(take some data, change some data and then alter the entire table with TC's graph function). But every time i do that i always throw everything off pretty good.

Brendan

P.S. yea the flash chips are sweet, definatly worth throwing the eproms away.

CanadianBeast - Nope, haven't been to the track yet. I am determined not to go until I have my driveshaft upgraded to a 3.5" heavy duty unit. I currently do not have a DSL installed (because none on the market will work with my current configuration) and I don't want to take the chance of twisting up this 1LE shaft and destroying either a part of my car or ... heh heh ... me - lol. I also have to admit that my current setup is not balanced. The 1-5/8" headers are surely choking my power. Fortunately, I have a set of Hooker Long Tubes sitting on the shelf. Unfortunately, I may be spending my money on a new tranny before I get them installed.

Leirch - Yeeeup, just soldering those puppies right into the carrier is a great way to do it. I am just happy to plug them into all of my HyperTech Adapters that I have laying around. Getting the VE tables down is pretty straight forward ... but, having some experience under your belt makes it a lot easier. Be patient - it will work out just fine Think small when you actually change the values by clicking on the graph. Little movements in the graph can make big changes in BLMs.

if you soldered the prom to the carrier then what device do you have to mate the carrier with the pocket programmer?

I used a header off of an old 3 1/2" disc drive. Desoldered it, cut it to length, bent the pins to fit my programmer, and ran a bead of Probond polyurethane glue along the pins to help hold them it place. Click Here to see how it turned out.

Hey, Tim, good stuff. One the Hex FF part, it may be due to my using FILEPROM instead of the Windows pgm with the Pocket Programmer. It appears those that do not have to use Hex FFs are using the Windows version.

Also, my Flash Prom would program, and read correctly as per the Pocket Programmer. But when I installed it in my car, my SES light came on and I couldn't even link to my ecm with Diacom. But I think it is a FILEPROM problem (and probably because I am using the previous version which may have an bug in it).

You have a bunch of adapters laying around? Wanna part with one, i really don't feel like spending the money on a new memcal from GM. C'mon help an ICONer out.
And i'm already in line for your headers, what about the shaft? If it isn't spoken for, i guess i'll start that line too.
