Bin confusion 91 LB9
ECM tag on my new 91Z28 305 auto car says AWFU. However if i look at the chip/memcal package, on the chip portion it says AXXB. I looked that up and indeed that is a bin file for these years. My guess is the ECM has been replaced at one point if it is saying AWFU? Or the chip? Or am I missing something?

Re: Bin confusion 91 LB9
AWFU (what a BCC), was released early in '90 for the '91 MY.
AXXB was released early in '91 for the '91 MY. The MEMCAL was probably swapped by the dealer for drive-ability issues.
There are TSBs that describe what it fixes, but I don't have access to them.
Both BCC's are for the same combination: LB9 with 700R4, and non-Z rated tires.

Re: Bin confusion 91 LB9
Yeah found it strange, but compared ve table and timing table and they are the same there. Not sure what else has changed. I logged the car and its abit lean overall so i was hoping to make some mild changes and didnt know what bin to use lol i'll try the axxb.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Bin confusion 91 LB9
Then a file compare will show the differences. Open a windows command prompt window and type:
fc /b file_1.bin file_2.bin > diff.txt
The resulting diff.txt file will list the changes.
When I was running the 730 ECM with the 305ci I used the AXXF file as a baseline.

Yeah i can do the bin compare i just havent yet. My timing needs work and fueling seemed off for a factory tune so i only compared ve and timing tables. Tonight i will do a compare. Thanks
On side note, is boosted $8D available? Lol this car is getting a rear mount

Re: Bin confusion 91 LB9
It is written and I am testing now. The orig version only did 2bar sensor, this one does 2 or 3bar sensor. Tried to make it as simple as possible for end user. The idea is the end user just imports all of their calibration, and only sets a boost fuel multiplier and a spark subtractor value that is per PSI of boost.
Interesting on the rear mount, I picked up a 4th gen and plan on doing rear mount. Which oil return pump ya gonna go with?

I run the turbowerx exa in my other car. Its pricey. I may try their base pump or one of the RBR pumps.
Is there anyway to just scale the ve table to read 2 bar instead of 1 bar? I know you would basically lose half resolution but doesnt seem like it be all that bad. 16 kpa between cells for ve. Code $59 extended 3 bar is 9-10 kpa. For a stockish engine seems like 16 could be doable

Side note, the 1bar to 2bar translation is not a perfect 2x scale. So the above scale is sort of close. Would be close enough for this "quick" method.
The problem is the speed density equation and the ECM VE tables. The tables only span 0-100% VE. The pseudo speed density eqn is:
AIR = MAP *VE * OTHER_STUFF
VE can only go to 100% in the tables, and your MAP variable can only go to 104KPA for the speed density eqn. In the code when the MAP sensor is 5.0v then it knows it is 104KPA. You need to do a 2x on this to get the air correct, because 5.0v is now 208KPA with the 2bar sensor.
Overall, no. Just scaling the tables won't work.
Do you know of anyone running the ebay bronze gear pumps for around $100?

Re: Bin confusion 91 LB9
I have heard that $59 is also good. Never tried it. I did try the $58 code but didn't like it. When I looked at the guts it looked like old TBI based could that I think is poorly written.
The 730 ECM code is night and day better. I have been messing with the newer PCMs so the testing is taking a little while for the boost $8D. Gotta figure out how to tune the 4th gen before the turbo goes in.
The $12 code and hardware for the 165 ECM impresses me. If I didn't understand hardware and software I would be running that. Heck, even then I still want to try it. You can buy a $100+ module that drops in the ECM and does real time tuning through the ALDL cable. It is worth a look for your project. Pinning a 730 to 165 isn't bad, but the other way is a PITA.
Love the ebay build. I smell a GT45 and 24x12x3 IC in the making. Check out discounthydraulic for the oil lines.

Re: Bin confusion 91 LB9
Thats what i am gonna do! Gt45 haha ebay cooler. Maybe mild cam/springs for fresh valvetrain. If turbo dont spool well i am blocking half the housing lol
I ran $59 for few years. Its great and is my backup plan. However it doesnt do emissions and stuff like 730 does. Car is bone stock with working r134 ac. I am not touching a thing except maybe intake work/runners, and injectors/regulator. Now whole cam idea will give me more power overall on less boost so i was considering that... If i can find one used lol not sure what i want yet.

Is it a roller cam? If so, get a take out roller from TPI or vortec and have delta make a 214/214/112 or something like that. Even a stock LT1 cam for $40 would be great.
I would wrap and/or use SS pipe before I blocked half of that turbine. Heat /Energy has to make it to the turbine.

Re: Bin confusion 91 LB9
True it will be wrapped. But its already 2.25" exhaust and that is good velocity. I plan to try without block plate and then with it if it doesnt work.
Ideally i want a p trim master power t61-t64 with a .96 housing as i have .68's laying around and i could try both.
My 401 spools a pair of t70 .96 by 4500-5200 depending what boost. 12-15 psi its like 4500 full boost. 24 psi was closer to 5000-5200. I think. Lol it all happens rather fast
I would think a full 305 would spool one by 3000. Target would be around that or even less due to tpi

If you don't siamese the TPI then I would recommend a .84 on the exhaust side. As for boosted $8D, reach out to Saar about the $8F code, it handles emissions. I believe the biggest issue is the XDF, or the lack thereof, actually...

I'd like to find a set of slp runners for cheap. Else i could make a set out of steel if i get flanges made. I cant weld aluminum
We shall see. I wanna dyno baseline it stock and with custom tune, then let the games begin.
I'll work with AXXB for now all motor.
Does stock ignition light off 10-12 psi? Lol i think i still have a hot coil for it. Dont really want to buy another mallory 685 box

Re: Bin confusion 91 LB9
You don't want the $8F code. Looks alot like $58.
lol, stock large cap ignition and boost. It is all stock with 24 Autolite plugs. I normally run 12PSI for a long time now. It misfires if the plug gap gets over .035". Yeah, lame.
The system was purpose built. TPI intake does not like to rev, stock ignition does not like to rev, injectors don't like revs (duty cycle time). So I built it with small turbos (500HP max capable) and a giant IC (1000HP) and water/alky via ECM control. Boost starts at 1600 RPM from a stop. With the TCC locked it will make 12 PSI before 2000 RPM. I shift at 4600 rpm. This is with two .48 A/R T3s. You can do the math to convert that to a single T4 turbine housing and estimate spool from there.
If you want to rev it over that I would install a dizzy module and coil (go to stock used HEI small cap setup). Siamese is an option, but a knock off EFI single plane is too. Steel/alum elbow to stock TPI TB. Modify TPI rails to fit single plane.

I still have my other stock dizzy with new module and the hot coil i used when i turned 6500+ at 15 psi few years ago. That was with mallory 685 box however
I might throw my dizzy in. I like ngk plugs and .030" gaps or so. That may work.
Not adding a meth kit so i wonder what i can get away with on pump gas? May pull heads to have them cleaned up and studs installed, new springs and grind chambers abit to smooth it out, polish and give it abit less compression

My engine got treated to new valve seals. I wouldn't go down the head clean up path.......you will be installing a LsX before you know it. The only thing I think about installing sometimes is a 208 to 214 duration hyd cam.

ZZ4 cam and Elgin spring RV943X / Z28 kit or Summit racing spring kit would be nice.
EDIT:
This is the title for the ebay oil pump I had in mind. If you search for it, it will come up. Maybe put an alum external heat sink on it and mounting system to quiet it down. I am guessing it is noisy.

The way the spd dns calc is done, table arrangement, and fueling control.
It is fine for others, just not preferred by me.

I'll make a thread when its ready. Still got alittle ways to go before i get that started.
I'm having trouble getting tunerpro to burn a chip using moates burners. I tried both my burn1 and burn2 and then another guys burn2. No success. Never used to have a problem until now. Not sure why. If i cant burn chips i am half tempted to lsx this thing or use fmu for boost management

Just so frustrating because i have the stuff to tune with. Its like overnight i have problems burning chips. Happened end of season 2 yrs ago when i said screw it, i'm changing efi. Used same chips for years no issue. Buy new ones and still issues. Glad i didnt buy new burners, that didnt fix it.
But even code 59 wont really work as well as i want cuz i have emissions equip and ac functions. Not sure how to work all that in $59. Thats why i was hoping $8D boost code would be out there.
Hell i could even go MAF and try blowerworks but thats no cheaper than just goin ebl. May consider that.

The release for the $8D will happen next week. I have been working the solution to having it work with both the AUJP and SAUJP versions. I have it figured out and will code it this week. It will patch into an existing bin so the end user doesn't have to mess with moving their calibration to a new bin and possibly missing something.
It will use your existing tune. You just set the "spark reducer per PSI of boost" value,
Boost VE multiplier" value, and what MAP sensor is installed (1,2,3 bar).
There is another site that has an LS1 reader for '411 PCM. They are working on a writer now. Dimented24x7 here has a writer for the '279 PCM. The Tunerpro XDFs exist. I plan on using the 896/411 PCM in the near future on an LSX setup. If you go the LSX PCM route then it is $200+ for the wheel setup and having to install it. Then add COP, etc. I would just install a used LM7 at that point.
