Hooking up toggle switches to ECU

Is it possible to hook up a switch and program the PROM chip to read the status of the switch and turn on lets say launch control or something like that? Trying to figure out if I should spend money on a MegaSquirt or keep the TPI ECU.

So does the chip have open ports where it receives that signal then?

That's not really going to do what you want I don't think. Not without messing with modded bin files and there's a whole learning curve to that. Megasquirt SUCKS to deal with and is ancient technology at this point. Better to go with a modern stand-alone capable of launch control, etc. I'm running a LINK ECU and have created a plug-and-play adapter for the 7165 ECM harness plugs. Hit me up if you are interested - we are going to be selling packages for LINK ECU plug-and-play upgrades.

Do you have to half multiple chips or can it store multiple bins?

Sorry this stuff is kinda new to me.

It uses a single 27SF512 chip to hold multiple BIN files that are flashed to the chip at different offsets. I still don't see how this is going to do what you want though. The stock BIN files really aren't setup for this. If you have a speed density car then you could use S_AUJP which does have launch control. I don't know of any BIN files for the MAF cars that have implemented launch control.

You need software like TunerPro, and chip flashing hardware to do this. Not to mention the learning curve that goes along with all that stuff. And it's like an archaeological expedition - heck even the 27SF512 chips are getting scarce as the last time they were manufactured was like 2011. All that stuff, and MegaSquirt, is ancient history.

It's hard to think of a situation where someone would *only* want launch control and are going to leave everything else stock. What are your plans for the car? You should consider what your plans are and if it would even be reasonable to bother learning all this ancient history.

Re: Hooking up toggle switches to ECU

I'm really just trying to make it a fast/torquey daily driver I can bring to the track and drag strip and mess around with.

I would really just like to keep the stock ECU as I don't have money right now to buy a better one. I just wanted to see how capable these stock ECUs are.

I do have some background in electronics, do you think I could make a circuit that would read the RPM sensor and somehow trick the ECU to do two step, and just run a toggle switch to the circuit?

Re: Hooking up toggle switches to ECU

The stock ECU and distributor are not capable of shutting off the ignition via software. Only modifying the timing (advancing it) from the base of 6 degrees as the ignition module in the distributor handles ignition control.

Modifying the RPM signal from the module will result in significant fueling (and timing) changes as this is one of the key inputs used to calculate fueling. RPM and either manifold pressure or MAF input..... you can't fool it by that method.

Launch control needs to be properly implemented in the ECU firmware to work right. Are you running a 7730 or a 7165?
