VAT Bypass

OK, I've purchased the multimeter and a pack of resistors and measured the resistance of my key (3.72). I can't find the "yellow wires and connector" coming out of the steering column. The directions sound easy enough on the "VATS Malfunction Diagnosis and Bypass" tech article, but I'm stumped. Could someone please help me locate these yellow wires? Are they a separate pair or are they together with several others leading to a larger, flat connector? Thanks.

I had the same resistence with my old 305 .... I did the thing with the resistence, it worked like a charme and 3.72 is the correct value ... it's 3720 ohms ... i think , can't remember exactly, I did it with my LT1 also witch had a value not listed in the 15 normal values.

ok .. i just did this with my 90 rs... it should be the same... you will be better off lookin for two 24 gage wires... one is purlple/white one is white/blk. to find it start at the base of the steering column. they should be right there... (they may be in a Larger yellow gage wire.. but if your careful and strip that back you will see them. But mine were right there. let me know if you have any other ?'s

You probably won't find yellow wires. I've only heard of one case where they were yellow, though there might be others. Try looking for 2 white wires, and they'll be inside an orange sleeve(the orange sleeve being what you'll see coming out of the steering column). And the white wires go into a small black connector around the top of the brake pedal area. There are some good pics in the thread linked below:

As for your resistance value, do you think publishing your security system's value on a world wide forum is a good idea? You might consider editing that out.

If he is bypassing the system what does it matter if the resistance is posted in the thread?

Re: VAT Bypass

It was just a suggestion. You never know what the future has instore. He(or a future owner of that car) might someday undo the bypass. And suppose someone in Florida who knew that car learned of the resistance value. Car thieves are good enough already, no need to hand them the "keys" to your car by allowing them access to your security system.
