my oil pressure guage did that and then got stuf for a bout a year. It would go down when the car was off.

It was no tthe sensor for me though. i think that it is a short. i messed around under the dash to wire up a few things and now it goes from zero to over 60 all of the time.

Its like it is working properly but the range that was about 30~50 is now 0~60. if that makes sense.

unhook the sensor wire. the guage shouldread cold. then jump the sensor wire to a ground and it should read hot. if this happens replace the sensor.

The sensor is on the ds head between #1 and #3 cylinders and has a one wire connnector. Take the connector off and the guage should go to zero. Touch the connector to the engine block/head and the guage should go to max.

Really, I would check the wire real good. It's sitting right there by the hot exhaust manifold so it has a tendency to sometimes maybe touch one, melt through the insulation and ground out. As it vibrates on the manifold what you'd see on the gauge is the needle going nuts. Maybe eventually the wire would crispify enough to get brittle and break. You'd then see a dead gauge.
Anyway, all I'm saying is that the wire is the weakest link in that circuit. The gauge is inside all nice and climate controlled and the sender is screwed into the water jacket all secure and not moving around. Not that they don't go bad, it's just I usually end up replacing and rerouting the wire.
