Temperature Gauge and Oil Pressure Gauge

Now, I believe that the oil pressure sender is located just to the right of the distributor when looking into the engine bay from the front hear the driver side valve cover, where is the wire that connects to this "canister" so I can hook this up? I need to know where it is before I start to clean up my wiring. What colour is the wire, or the clip that attaches to this part?

Secondly, how does the temperature gauge function? Where do the wires all connect to send the signal to the cluster? I do not get a reading, and I just replaced the thermostat and gasket but I still don't get a reading. Now the piece that bolts on over top of the thermostat has a large tube running to the radiator and two other mounts (one has two small pipe fixtures and one as a larger fixture). Am I looking at the correct place? Where is all of this located?

Any pictures are appreciated, I am indeed a visual learner.

Thanks for all of your input.

G

The sender for the temperature gauge is in the driver side head. It has a single wire to it.

Re: Temperature Gauge and Oil Pressure Gauge

I was just outside a couple minutes ago and I didn't see any wiring running off of the driver side head, where would the wire have gone? Does it run off a group of wires?

The sender wires for both senders disappear into the wiring harness attached to the bulkhead connector on the drivers side.

Re: Temperature Gauge and Oil Pressure Gauge

It's not connected, I'll have to hunt out the connections or at least take a pictures of what's going on. What style of connectors are for the temp gage and what color wire is for the oil pressure?

I don't know the colors offhand. Both connectors have a single blade type terminal, although the coolant temperature could have a button terminal instead.

Re: Temperature Gauge and Oil Pressure Gauge

Looking at the poor quality Autozones suggest that the temperature is a button. I'm a color guy, so that'll help me most. I'll keep hunting.

Re: Temperature Gauge and Oil Pressure Gauge

I have an 86 Firebird manual, and I've had a few Haynes manuals for other cars but I've found them to be useless for what I'm doing. Shop manual for an 82 is hard to come by.

Oil is probably tan or brown.

Re: Temperature Gauge and Oil Pressure Gauge

Yes indeed, the temp wire is green, and the oil is tan. For some reason on the harness the temp wire had a flat clip which was supposed to attach to a button (someone please explain this?) so I'll find a clip and attach. As for the oil, still on the hunt for the last wire!!!

Re: Temperature Gauge and Oil Pressure Gauge

The flat clip slides on the button from the side. GM abandoned the button at some point, and replacement senders come with a single spade terminal.
