Positive Battery Cable - help'a brutha out!
Positive Battery Cable - help'a brutha out!
Hey Guys n Gals -
I am wiring up my car for it's first breaths of life (project car going on 5 years now).
Because the car had no engine to start with (just a shell), I don't have a reference here. I'd like to see if someone can tell me where some cables go - should be easy.
So - the thick part of positive battery cable should go directly to the starter, correct?
I believe there should also be a small (10-14 gauge) wire that comes from the terminal to a small junction block near the battery. From that location, what cables come off, and where do they go?
Thanks, everyone!

Yes. The smaller lead should go through a fusible link to the ECM power lead that runs along the pass fenderwell.

[QUOTE=naf;4221153] Cool thanks. One thing - I forgot to state that this is an EFI to carb swap, so there is no ECM anymore.
So that fusable link to the junction post - what connects to that?
Also - how would one make a fusable link (what gauge wire, and/or in-line fuse would I use?)?
thanks everyone...

If the ecm is gone you won't need to connect it.

OK - so what else connects to that junction post? I'm guessing some wire needs to go from there to the alternator and/or fuse box. Anyone know the specifics (where the wire connects to, what color, what guage)?
Thanks, naf!

Sorry forgot about the alternator connection. I'm out of town at a school for work and getting distracted. Your alternator wire should come out of that splice. All other power should come from the battery post, although I dimly recall some models may have pulled power for the rad fans from the battery? What model?

Thanks naf... it's an 88 SC that I've turned into a carb setup (it was a 305 TBI).
One more question - it sounds like the main power to the under dash fuse box should come out of that junction box - what color should that one be?
I have to make the cable going from the battery to the junction post (passenger fender) - what cable type/size should I use?
