pulled neg cable and shut off wtf?

hey been searchin wires and **** all week but anyway i used my truck batt to start car cause its dead then went to switch cables so it would charge batt but pulled neg cable and it just shut down do u no what that means i no if it was positve that means altinator is shot can u help

Same for the negative, the car doesnt' have any power to run the coil computer or any electronics. Alternator is bad.

Before you buy a new Alt. I'm sure you can have it tested at any autozone/murray's >>> I myself would do that and recheck your ground (clean & sanded to clean metal).... Good luck!

tgill, something as to check.. Take a wire brush or sand paper (220 grit?) and be careful and clean off the posts on your battery, the ends of the cables, and anywhere you see corrosion. Made a world of difference for me Worth a try before dropping some cash for a battery or alternator any day.

Could be your voltage regular.. Don't drop the money on the alt. before you get that checked..

ok how do u check a voltage regulater and where is it and what is it i heard of it but is there a way i can check my wires that go to and from alt

Its inside the ALT...

Get the ALT test and check all of your engine/chassis grounds. A broken ground to one of those would mean the batt cable is the only ground left and removing either off the batt opens the circuit killing the engine

thanks guys had it checked it is good so i started searching down wires again and none of them lead back to batt so apparently the previous owner thought the batt recharged it self but thanks for all your help
