Draining battery

Alrighty, My battery is draining itself relatively fast. On sunday I had to jump it I thought the battery might have died cause its kinda cold out here and I haven't backed it out and let it run for a week-week and a half. Well today i went to start it up and its dead again (tuesday). Well now im thinking on sunday when i jumped it I got some kind of short or something instead of the cold draining it.

But recently I have replaced a couple things:
Rear brake light up in hatch window
new speakers in behind the sail pannels

Also about 2 weeks ago i did a search for why my power doors hatch and dome light ect wasnt working I came across alot of people saying that the cig lighter was the culprit for blowing the acc. fuse so I found out why all that wasnt working.

But now what i found out when I checked the fuses that there was a 25 instead of a 20 in the acc. and the radio had a 15 instead of the 10 and there was one other with a 25 that was suppose to be a 20

sry for the wall of text i dunno if that last part of stuff was use full or not just wanted to add it all

thnx for help in advance

Re: Draining battery

Drive the car, get the battery all charged up. Unhook the battery until you drive it again. If it's still up then start looking for the drain. I use a test light between the batt. cable and the battery terminal. If it lights up and stays lit, pull fuses, unhook stuff until it goes out.

Re: Draining battery

It's a shot in the dark, but ...

Late at night, when it's deadly quiet ... leave the key OUT of the car, open the hatch, place ear on the hump, and listen for the fuel pump. If it's running with the key off, then the culprit is your Oil Pressure Sending Unit (OPSU).

Fuel pump gets a direct battery connection through the OPSU. It's possible for the OPSU to go bad in such a manner that it 'sees' oil pressure when there isn't any. Since the connection is direct from the battery, ignition on doesn't matter - the pump can run constantly without the key. It takes 2-3 days for the fuel pump to drain the battery.

If you hear the pump running (a whining sound) with the key off, try replacing the OPSU - it's located above your oil filter, runs about $30.

Yep! You can usually hear the pump running when it's quiet and you have youe ear right against it.

Re: Draining battery

Alrighty so today I got sometime to jump it and see if the fuel pump kept running. I shut the car off in the drive way around mid day(quiet town). I could hear it run for cpl sec after i shut the car off whine pause whine pause whine pause kinda deal. Then I pulled it back in the garage and checked it again same deal.

While I was at it I checked all the fuses under the dash with a 12vdc Automotive tester by DORMAN. I put it on all the metal tips on the plastic end of the fuses and the light never came on. (so if im using the right thing as far as i can tell no drain there)If i did this wrong or used the wrong thing let me know and ill get/do the right thing.

Also I unhooked the battery as well

So, the pump stopped all together after a couple of seconds, or it kept doing this "whine pause whine pause" thing forever?

You wouldn't have to start the car for it to run (if it's a bad OPSU) - it'll run always whether the car's been touched or not - you could put the key in the mail to me, and the pump will run long after the post office lost the letter (or the battery dies) if it's a bad OPSU.

The pump shouldn't make any noise after the key is turned off - so that OPSU might be the culprit.

Re: Draining battery

It ran(fuel pump) long enough for me to turn the car off(had to jump it and let the battery charge back up) hit the hatch button get out and put my head down to the hump and hear it for like 3 seconds

Well you can try a parasitic drain test but you will need a Digital multimeter that can read amperage. all you do is unhook the positve bater calbe place the pos. lead of the meter to the bater and the neg. lead to the positive batter cable if you read over 100 miliamps then you have a drain anything under is usualy ok. but from there start pulling fuses until the amerpage drops and theres your problem

Re: Draining battery

Alright I went out this morning wanted to check if the battery still had a charge after i unhooked it last night and its dead this morning (got a battery tester and it showed it on yellow last night when unhooked it now its red)goes from green yellow red from full to dead

Does this mean the battery is junk?(It was brand new like maybe a month old)even then could be defective

Re: Draining battery

sure sounds like it.check open circuit voltage with voltmeter.or tke it back where you got it and let them test it.
