crank fuse
The 89 GTA I bought has no wire going to the crank fuse in the fuse block. Anyone know the color.I have no power to the purple wire anywhere in the circuit and am hoping this is the problem.

Re: crank fuse
Sorry let me rephrase. I have all the wiring diagrams(not good at reading them). On the back side of the fuse block is a connector with no wire going to it that says 3A. Crank. I put in the steering column out of my 82 Z-28 and had all the connections but the VATS.I put in a resistor equivalent to the original key to bypass the system. I see no cut wires from the original harness and all of the ones on my Z steering harness are hooked up. Back to the original question which is where the wire to the main fuse block would originate from and what color would I be looking for yellow or purple from where? I do have power at the neutral safety switch but it is the green wire not the purple one. Thanks for any help.

Re: crank fuse
Just to skip a couple steps, I think your vats bypass is not correct. Under your drivers side kick panel you will have a relay it may be covered in bishop tape goo. There will be two larger gauge wires purple and yellow or maybe green. Pull the relay and jumper the starter enable relay.

Re: crank fuse
It sounds like the resister value for the pass key module is incorrect or the pass key module isn't getting switched ignition power.

Re: crank fuse
I will try the jumper tomorrow. I have the original key and tumbler and our electronics teacher matched the exact resistance value and wired it into the original harness(Mechanics teacher said it was right). So does it not matter that the wire is missing to the crank fuse? The only thing that I know for certain is that nowhere in the harness that I have found is the lg. purple wire hot. You guys give me suggestions and I will keep trying them...thanks again

Sorry I don't have the schematic for what is on the crank fuse it may even be engine code specific for just tbi idk.

Re: crank fuse
I bought an 89 GTA roller vin says it was a 5.7 TPI car.I took the 5.7 carb engine out of my 82 Z-28. Steering column was bad in GTA so put in Z-28 column. Only mods to wiring so far is I removed the in-tank fuel pump and cut the wires at the tank and left the guage sending wire(which still works). I actually left the original VATS key lock set hooked into harness before I tried anything else and still have that option. I have not had power at the purple wire anywhere since hooking up the harness even before I put the engine in last weekend.

Re: crank fuse
Does your dash lighs come on when you turn the key to the accessory position ? The only schematic I found for 82 was a Ccc and the wire powering the ignition that is on a fusable like is not colored but runs through c100. Have you back probed the larger gauge either purple or yellow wire at the ignition switch to see if you have power ?

My lights inside and out all work. my guages(amp and fuel ) work and at start position the temp guage pegs out. I have not probed steering harness

Re: crank fuse
I took the time when I got home to make a real jump wire and hook it up properly. SHAZZAM.....Nothing is hooked up yet but the starter turned over at the key. I am pretty darned happy. By this weekend I hope to hear my new project come to life thanks to your input.

Re: crank fuse
If the temp gauge is pegged out sounds like the incorrect sender or the wire or sender is grounded. You jumpered the starter interrupt relay ?

Re: crank fuse
I jumped the relay in the picture you posted (I think). It is the one in the kick panel(driver side). There are several wires cut up front that I have no idea where or what they are to, I think some are ground(black) one Black/red stripe not saure yet. The blower motor circuit and wiper motor circuit do not work either.I will not have A/C,Cruise or anything but the basics, so at some point will want to pare down all the unnecessary wires. After I put in the jumper I never looked at the guages(I just reached in the window) so not sure if it still pegged afterward. Will check tomorrow.
