Electrical issues causing stalling?

I drive a 1992 camaro RS with a 305 tbi with a 7r400. So i recently had to replace my sparkplugs which had become so fouled that the engine was only running on 7 cylinders. I also replaced the distributor cap and rotor (there is some scoring already inside of this new cap). I am also pretty sure my ignition coil is bad because it is arching when starting the car. SO all of that being said, the issue that I am currently having is that the engine will idle weird. The rpm's will randomly drop below 400rpms and sometimes it will just stall out. Could this be due to the bad cap and coil? To add to the list of strange things, when I start the car, the bass on the rear right speaker thumps rapidly. This will calm down and function normally after about 10 minutes of leaving the speakers on. It is really loud and annoying. This issue started at the same time the other issues did. Could all of these problems also be related to a bad alternator?

What do you guys think?

P.S. I'm getting tired of stalling out at traffic lights. Also, assume all parts are pretty much original.

Fouled with what ? Fuel or oil?

Not going help things
If it is arcing on the wire to the dizzy that means not all the power is getting to the plugs ; possibly your fouling problem?

Re: Electrical issues causing stalling?

The plugs were old and rusted. The fouling was consistent with normal wear and tear. I replaced the plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor. Maybe the fuel filter is clogged? (It is due to be replaced anyway). There are no unusual codes and no check engine light. When I am sitting at a stop light or stop sign the rmps rise and fall from >300rpms - 1200ish. Sometimes when the rpms dip the engine shuts off or shutter when i give her some gas. She loves to stall out during u-turns and in reverse. If I give it more gas the car wont stall, and she runs normally at speed without too much bogging. This is not a constant problem and comes and goes (every couple of minutes). Also, whenever i turn on an electrical component (radio, lights, heat, turn-signal) you can see a noticeable drop on the battery gauge (this has always happened).

Re: Electrical issues causing stalling?

Is it worth having the car professionally looked at so that they can generate a comprehensive list of everything that needs to be replaced?

Re: Electrical issues causing stalling?

When mine did this I had numerous vacuum leaks. Could also be a dirty IAC. Do a search for it. Have you recently disconnected the battery? If so, the vehicle may be going throught the idle relearn procedure. Good luck.

my vacuum lines are pretty old and dry rotted and I have not replaced that particular valve yet (it is probably original). The issue is keeping my baby running on a students budget

Re: Electrical issues causing stalling?

Vacuum hose is cheap. Take off the air cleaner assembly making sure the vacuum hose on the front is taken off so it can be removed. Take a look around the TBI unit and try to fallow each hose to their destination. It is very important that there not leaking. If ones damaged then replace it with new hose you can buy at any auto store.Heres a diagram to help.Don't forget to hook up the hose you took off when putting the cleaner back on.And replace the PCV valve.

Re: Electrical issues causing stalling?

Bad engine grounds will cause the issues you're having too. Make sure the alt bracket ground isn't rusted and is solidly mounted. Also, make sure the ground studs on the back of the heads are clean and tight also.

Re: Electrical issues causing stalling?

My intermittent stalling problem finally went all the way out and the car would not start. The coil tested OK,but turned out to be bad. I bought a Borg Warner coil under the label BWD Select for 35.99 at O'Reilly's Auto Parts and my car runs better and not a stall in two weeks.
(replaced a Accel Super Coil )
