Dead short/power drain after horn wire got pinched

Dead short/power drain after horn wire got pinched when I had to remove steering wheel. Figure it out after the fuse blew, unplugged horns [ don't work, just click] and even removed wire from steering wheel so it can't be " grounded" but dam if my battery isn't still going flat after sitting a day or two still, as if its still doing it.

If the horns are unplugged and the ground wire in wheel removed, I dunno how im still draining power???

The relay will still draw power even when the horns are unplugged. This is of course assuming it IS the horn causing your drain.

The horn relay is on the right side of the steering column, by the diagnostic port. In the courtesy center.

I guess the only way to know for sure if thatwas it, is to see if the battery goes dead or down in a day?

Check your ignition cylinder and make sure something isn't causing it to hang internally in the run position or something, even though the key is out. Just an idea

Also, dumb question, but: is your dome light turned on?

nothing obvious, gonna tear into it soon, did have both the horn, acc fuse and tailight fuse go out in recent times. Maybe something cross related.

just gonna gut interior so I can lay under the dash easier, can check T5 fluid and work on that digital gear indicator

Re: Dead short/power drain after horn wire got pinched

Well Im starting to think maybe it was the cig lighter, I removed center console to re-seal shifter. With that stuff undone, power loss has stopped or seems to. Doesn't spark when neg is touched, multimeter inline for neg shows nothing.

Re: Dead short/power drain after horn wire got pinched

sat for 3 days, started up just fine and went......

Im sure I fixed some things, but had to get a new battery also. So its a give and take.

Batt in there I got free in 09 out of the bed of a junk truck, was marked as bought on 02, I had it on a float charger for a while before first use.

Was a NAPA battery, so I bought another NAPA battery, 12yrs was a long time for one to last.
