Gta radio connections

Ok so tired doing my best to find these answers but no luck .
Reinstalling a stock radio on 88gta.
I am getting the loc code when ign is on. I have a blank screen when key off.
(still working on getting the mute button to unlock radio)
So , with radio locked should I be getting nothing on screen till key ign on then get loc? Is there clock?
I also have a small 2 wire harness below main harness with just a grey/black wire and a black ground. Any info on what that harness is for?
Any info appreciated, thanks!

Re: Gta radio connections

The 2-wire plug is the SWC plug,... only a GTA type radio will have the proper plug in back for SCW. ( There were some Bonneville radios that are compatible with GTA SWC,...most are not. ) If the radio is locked then LOC will appear. Pretty sure it will always say LOC if it's plugged in and getting power; no clock.

ok so do you know what those two wires connect to for my steering wheel controls? Po had aftermarket stereo, trying to go back to stock and don't see where the grey/black stripe and black go to. I want to make sure radio will get whatever signals will come from my column.

also to confirm, you belive with ign off a blank screen is correct?
thank you!

Re: Gta radio connections

As u can see my 2 wire connection is a grey/black and black(rt side, white connector). I have the grey/black labeled to go to orange so I am assuming I have wrong color wire as I saw a picture from someone else with orange wire not G/B.
issue is my orange from car is going to orange in main harness which seems correct.
does anyone know the correct wiring for the 2 wire connector (white harness) and where it connects to? Thanks.

That is NOT correct.

The plug colors for your SWC plug don't matter because the plug that was spliced in place probably came from a Bonneville and doesn't match the factory Firebird plug. Your GREY/Black should be connected to ORANGE - but NOT the one that your spliced into.

Here's the factory Schematic: ( notice the ORANGE wire and BLACK/Blue wire for SWC comes from the COLUMN,.... not the radio fuse. )

thank you, so if I connect my "orange" from 2 wire conector to orange coming down column and connect my black to black/blue coming from column this would be correct? I will Just follow those wires down column to make sure I have correct connection. I see the orange is 1st connector in column harness and the one right next to it black/blue . Both thin wires.
thanks for your help. Just want to confirm I am doing this correctly .
appreciate the help

Re: Gta radio connections

Ok I found the other orange. But I may have misunderstood the next part. I'm black with blue. I also found next to the orange. But there is no end to the black with blue it It goes to the steering column and then under the shifter. I'm not the best at leading the Wiring diagrams But I do see multiple connections on that wire. So do I leave that wire alone? Then just connect the orange and ground the black?

Re: Gta radio connections

BLACK/Blue is Ground. The Radio and the SWC pad BOTH need ground on this circuit.

Here's another schematic ( with notes on it ) that I found somewhere (probably here on TGO) that you might find easier to read.

The black w light blue seems to go to the stereo on that diagram.
