How long is too long?

I’m doing the 0411 pcm swap with one coil per plug. I not putting the coils on the valve covers but want to put them up front on either side of the radiator. I’m concerned about the pink/black power wire running from the C207 being too long to the coils on the driver side and overheating. I measured roughly 11 feet from the C207. I know that wire also feeds 4 of the injectors too. Is that too far? Those wires running from a 15 amp fuse.

well thats the neat thing about tuning, you can add more timing to take up the slack
also, dont forget, electricity travels pretty fast..

Re: How long is too long?

I did some research on some different electrical wire sites and I think I'm safe as I'm seeing 12 volts and 15 amps going through 50 ft of wire without any problems. I just don't know how much power draw those coils pull is my biggest concern.

What coils are you using?? A set of LS coils??

Yes I am using LS coils. I corrected my last post to 15 amps from 10 amps after seeing Pockets diagrams. 10 amps were only for the injectors, not with coils. The wires from the C207 are 16 gauge, correct?

18ga, but there's nothing stopping you from running larger

After I looked at them I realized they were 18ga. That pink ign wire, why can’t I put an inline fuse on it? Or what 10ga wire could I splice into so I can get power to the coils at the front of my car?

Re: How long is too long?

I upped the INJ fuses to 15a. Never had an issue

Coils on the same wires, 18ga

Why are you wanting 10ga for?

I was worried about the extra length. I’m putting the coils up on either side of the radiator instead of over the valve covers. I’m just trying to be cautious.

Re: How long is too long?

Putting 10ga in will not change the fuseblock to C207 run still being 18ga

If you think it's too long, then add a relay and use the old fuse wire to trigger them

Okay I will keep the 18ga wire, put a 15amp fuse, and get a relay and put it inline somewhere. Thanks Pocket. Much appreciated . I’m sure I will have more questions later.

Why do you want your coil packs up by the radiator?? They're not gonna get fatigued by heat as they're designed to handle it all and the plug wires are gonna be ridiculously long

I just don’t want them on the valve covers. I’m not sure where else I could put them except possibly under the engine and there isn’t much room for them underneath.

I do have wipers. I think I’m going to modify the aftermarket coil bracket I bought and put the coils underneath. The starter side is going to be harder to figure out.
And that’ll eliminate the long wire problem.

Mount them on the frame rails right next to the exhaust?

I might give that a try. I have a manual tranny so I should have a little room there.

I made a shelf for the 0411 PCM where the battery was. I also am putting the fan relays under it and have plenty of room for the wires. Next I will get the coils under the car next to the transmission.

That's wild you'd put the coils in an area that will see a form of punishment. I get it that it's your car and you can do whatever you want but at what point do you sit back and be like "is this a smart idea?" That's probably the worst placement I've ever heard of. But nobody here is gonna stop you from learning the hard way

I'm going to make a little splash cover for them so they'll be fine. But thank you for your input to this matter.
