well my car has about 2 more days till its done!! i have the engine and transmission hooked up already. now i have to hook up the y-pipe and put back together all the fuel lines and other stuff. now that i think of it will my stock z28 hood clear the new engine?? i know z28 boy did this swap but he said nothing about changing his hood. anyways enjoy and tell me what you think. the engine bay is very messy now
here is my setup. gm 350/ 330 hp ho deluxe. hedman shorty headers, y-pipe, 3inch catback(no cat with a cutout, running into a flowmaster 60 series muffler, rator 700r4 performance transmission with a 2300 stall and a corvette servo, i have weld prostar rims with a p265 tire on the back and p215 on the front wrapped with radial ta's, well anyway with this setup my mechanic said i should hit the low13's with a different gear.
i have a 3:08 gear right now. i was not expecting this! i was thinking mid to high 13's. what do ya'll think? here is a pic of my rims enjoy

nice looking motor you have there. Just a matter of tuning it, and getting the power to the road, and you could be in that range, probably going to need better tires to get those times out if it.
That's a nicely packaged motor i belive. and it has room for "growth"

thanks pony killer
i was thinking the same thing on those tires. i know the radials won't hold up to that power. any suggestions? also what sort of tuning should i do. i know that motor has lots of potential. i don't really want to mess with the heads right now they are the vortec. i know that aluminum are better but for right now i want to see how these do. thanks

if your goint down the track with it you'll want some Drag radials for it, if not slicks. The BFG drag radials are ever popular, and readily available.
As far as changing the heads... the heads on that are amonst the best production heads... ever. i'd leave them be.
if down the road you wanted more power out of it, a cam upgrade to something in the Comp XE line is a good choice, i'd go with either an edelbrock rpm intake or the airgap verison of it. that's give more power.
but for the time being it'll be a solid peformer as it sits, when you have the urge for 12s the cam and intake change would do the trick.

Depending on where you live I'll drive to race ya
.
Hood clearance can always be found in removal of the underhood fiberglass and cutting out some of the underbracing.
Please do keep us posted with track times. I'm interested to see how much different the carb will be compared to my TBI.

Nice car and good job chefdan1!!! Love those rims! Can I have em?
They'd look good on my 4-cyl Camaro. BTW...can you take some pics of your car (after hood is back on)? Wanna see what this thing looks like and need a new pic for my desktop.

thanks everyone i just got the car back last night.
when i went to pic it up my mechanic took me for a test drive. he didn't hammer it but i thought he did! he was like,"no that was about half!" man what a change from my 305! well any way he took me into the back lot of the chevy dealership and all i saw was black lines
he was like ya those are from yesterday! he reversed to the end and then he slammed it. all i felt was the torque just throwing me back and all my did it pull when hit 70 and he glanced over.
he said ya you should be able to run with the newer z's and kill a gt. well anyway right when i got it back i showed my friends(who had no idea i was doing anything at all!) they were like
i laughed. any ways i took some more pics with the hood on and here they are. also z28 boy i live in jacksonville, florida. i appreciate the offer though i will give you some track times in a month or so. anyways what kind of gas mileage can i get with this engine?? and if it's bad how can i get better with that engine?? thanks here are the pics

BTW, I'm not z28 boy. Also, how did you break in the motor so fast? I thought this was a brand new motor?
Gas milage, well if you can do better than 16/24 then you've got a good tune in the car. That's the best I've been able to pull off with the 3.73 gears and TBI.

id be a little PO'd if the mechanic did that. The engine should only see very light use for the first 20 - 30 miles. The only time it shoudl see high loads/rpms during breakin is to seat the rings. Doesnt that motor have a flat crappet cam as well? Those need special breakin procedures. Dont know if the mechanics knew about that one or not. Ive seen my bro's friend jump into his car after he got a motor swap done and he didnt do a thing to break it in. Just started it up and let it idle for a while. I was like, "shouldnt you run that for 20 mins. to break in the cam? It is the first startup, after all." He said "Nah, im gonna go have fun..." And he jumped in and just sped away.

My break in was exactly like the posted link. Then I drove it out to school (NJ to Ohio) for a 540 mile highway break in. Drove it back, 1000+ miles, changed the oil for the 3rd time and then had fun with it. Only after you put about 500 miles of cruising miles on it would I go WOT. You need to get the most oil (2000- 2500rpm) to the cam and lifters during the initial start-up so as not to round off a lobe on the cam. My friend did that and it sucked. Lucky he got the car home but ever since then he had to rebuild the heads 3 times with less than 1000 miles between each rebuild. The motor is great and please do post times, I'd really like to see what she does since you've basically got my motor only with a carb.
