A Years Worth Of Work!!!

I finally got my new engine done, after a YEAR of building and ENDLESS hassles! It seems like every single part that I bought does not fit. ARRRRGHGH!!! It also took a year because the mechanic that is helping me build it is TAKING HIS SWEET TIME! So here it is, tell me what you think.

Specs:
4 Bolt Main - 355 c.i. - High Nickel casting
Steel crankshaft - Speed Pro Hyper pistons - L98 Rods
Ported Vortec Heads - Edelbrock RPM Vortec Intake - Holley Double Pumper 650 carb - Comp Cams XE 274 Cam - 150 NOS

Sounds good man. I've been doing mine since oct. of '01 lmao I need to get some money to finish it(anyone feel like donating?). You've got that engine in the car and if so have you gotten it to the track yet?

Sounds like a good combo. Did you consider going with the Nitrous grind version of the 274? Everyone is going with the XE274 (and I don't blame 'em after seeing low 12 second passes)

With a 3.73 gear, 26" tall tire and about a 3200RPM stall your motor should throw you well into the 11's

I thought all vortec heads have the "aligator teeth" on the front of the head? i know they are vortec heads because of the intake bolts though.

I actually prefer the black because it blends in better I think. Especially with a black block, its hard to tell its there...

For putting on intakes I always use Ultra Black. It's a more high temp sealer than the blue or orange. To keep it from leaking start about a 1/2" up on the head with about a 3/8 bead. Another problem could be if you got the block decked and alot was cut off or the heads surface and alot cut off them to it'll cause problems with the intake lining up and sealing. If thats the case to fix it you have to cut some off where the intake bolts up.

I just got desktop dyno to give me 400 hp at 6500 rpm and 400 torque at about 4500 rpm. I know it's prolly a bit less than that but that is still encouraging, what do you think?

WOW! I would **** my pants if that is true. I certainly hope so. And from the way it sounds when I start it, it just MAY be true! But then again, I also have open headers right now, lol!

when it's all said and done, how much did you end up spending on the whole deal? (If you don't mind my asking)

Dave - I will definitely swing by when I get this thing legal. What "toy" did you pick up this time??? I never did get the GFX painted and installed, ran out of money and time.

As far as what I spend for the engine, heres a rough breakdown:

4 Bolt Main Block (bored, honed): $350
Hyper Pistons $100
Rods Machined L98 Rods
Steel Crankshaft $175
Ported Vortec Heads $200
Vortec RPM Intake $150
Camshaft $110
Lifters and Springs $80
Pushrods FREE
Headers FREE
Rocker Arms FREE
Valve Covers $50
Oil Pan $60
Holley Carb $125
Misc (Bolts, Gaskets) <$175
----------------------------------------------------
Total Around $1575

That's probably low since I just bought a new Optima Battery, all the chrome ****. But I did however get some KILLER deals on parts such as the crank and the heads. My mechanic is always hooking me up with stuff.
