'78 350 engine swap; check engine light on
Okay before i got my car the guy who had it rebuilt and bored out and everything from a '78 camaro 350. yet when i test drove it the check engine light was on and to this day (3 monthes later) ists still on. he said it was because he didn't plug in the sensor that it was hooked up to or something. i don't know. I was reading around that if the timing is off on the car the light will come on. I think my timing needs to be adjusted because at least once a week not always, the car will either diesel when turning off or just keep turning over heavily a couple times...hope thats the right terminology. hope someone can shed some light on this for me. thanks

1978 engines were not computer controlled. You will have to provide more detail on how the conversion was done, what electronics are in use, etc.

Something isn't plugged in. I have a 350 out of a '79 Z28 in my car, and I know for a fact that all the computer controls can be used on the engine. Mine works like it was factory stock, and the check engine light only comes one when there is a problem... all the holes you need for computer stuff are there.

Do you know how to get the error codes off the computer? If you do that, it will tell you were to start looking.

Is the car a 83 or a 78 ? You have me confused, but if it is a 83 I can be some help to you for sure.

I got a 1969-72 350, 4 bolt main. No sensors were hooked up. I just removed the bulb. I check my engine at least once a week, so as long as you keep on the maintence, all will be good
