elementz, since you asked if they're california certified, i'm assuming you're from california ...
if you want to swap in a V8 legally, there's alot more to getting it through smog for you, since you've got a 6 like me... i've done a bit of research on the topic and basicly what you need to have is an engine from a passenger car of your year or newer, and all of the smog equipment that came with it in good running order, then you have to take that to a smog referee... thats my little cliffnotes version...

I suggest looking into an LB9, L98, LT1 or even the LS1 depending on how much you want to spend

most of the crate motors out there were intended for pre-emission vehicles (50's up to mid 70's) so there are no emission provisions on them, but if you live in a part that has no emmission testing...you can have at it.

Swapped in a 350 crate and installed all the Emission Controls from the old 305 TPI and passed two Ohio E-checks with no problems. The last test they gave a quick pass the car was so clean.

I knew there was a way around it but to be honest, I wasn't quite thinking a lot about swapping over the emission equip...good info DJP.

Elementz,
You're wondering if swapping in a 350 will be able to pass smog in CA, well, I'm wondering the same thing for myself since I'm doing the same thing. It's all too common. https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=245608 is a post of the work I plan to do to mine. And hey if I don't pass SMOG in CA there will always be a friend around who will. But I'll see if I could put my old emission control things back onto the 350 only when needing to pass SMOG, of course. I don't have to worry about SMOG until August of next year so I see how everything goes.

There was a guy a while ago who bought the 350 TPI and he passed Cali emissions just fine. I purchased the same motor, but through aluminum heads on it.

This place has some pretty good deals.
