450H.P. Precautions?
Hello,
This is my first post on the forums. I just recently purchased my 92 Camaro. I ordered a 383 pushing 450HP. I wanted to get some advice on the build up. The car has 175K miles on it so I will probably just purchase a built transmission from one of these performance shops on the net. I am curious about how much work will be needed for the rear end. Will I need a new driveshaft at all? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Your rear axle will be the weak link. I put a Moser 12-bolt ($2200) in my car to meet my 400HP goal. At which point I spec'd a 1350 yoke and ordered a Spohn driveshaft to match ($350). I think the driveshaft was overkill for street use. Then the transmission becomes the weak link (but they are half the price of a good axle).

Don't forget to beef up the rest of the car.
Subframe connectors are a must, as will good shocks and springs be. A new torque arm and rear LCAs will also be a very good idea.

you need all of the above but if you dont beat on it you can make your 10 bolt last for a while with upgraded axles and a cover with bearing cap support. i still have the 10 bolt in mine and i have broken the 400 and the "upraded" driveshaft. i dont run slicks though.

This list can get long easily, I have everything mentioned installed on my car. I just wanted to stress that the place to start is the rear axle. There are oppurtunities to beef up the 10 bolt for reliable street use if not abused.

would stock 28spline axles with a posi unit from a 96 z28 camaro be ok? that question was for me instead of making a new thread.sorry for the robbery.
while im here. if im pushing 350 hp at the rear wheels will the stock 700r4 with a shift kit be ok for a while?just plan on running some 245/50s out back. what else should i look into purchasing?

Just take it easy on your launches from the stop light. There are people running that set-up on the strip. Run it 'til it breaks, what have you got to loose. The 245's will spin at will like in my GTO with that kind of power. As long as your not getting wheel hop that will act as a relief valve for the torque.
