Stock Bottem End take a 100 Shot?

I just got a used nitrous kit with all the accessories for real cheap.

Currently my engine is a 76' 2-bolt block. stock/reconditioned rods, replacement type rod bolts, speed-pro coated hyper pistons, stock crank, etc. that has about 25K on it since the rebuild.

Cam is 230/236@.050 solid (.477/.488 Net Lift) with 750 Holley DP, Dart II dual plane intake, and AFR 195 Heads w/ 9.8 CR. I figure with exhaust and accessories its putting out around 380-400HP.

Assuming I use all the safety precautions (fuel pressure switch, full throttle activation, ignition box with window switch, ignition retard, etc.) do you guys think my bottem end could hold up to a 100 shot? Thanks!

Nick

I have put 2 bottles(30 passes) on a dry 75hp shot through my stock bottom end and no problems yet.

Are you fuel injected or carbed?

Are you dry or wet shot?

ive ran countless bottles through my stock TPI engine.. 100shot. dry. i believe its said to go absalutely no more then 125 on a stock engine.

what i was saying before my computer froze.......the kits say not to exceed a 100-125 shot on a 200-250 hp stock motor. your stock bottom end already has to deal with almost 400hp and adding n20 would put that to about 500hp (500hp on n20 is much worse on a motor than 500hp n/a too).
with stock rods, stock rod bolts, stock crank, and hyper slugs that bottom end is almost already at its limit and that n20 would put you over the top IMO.
if this was a 250hp motor id say go for it but it isnt...

just my two pennies

Maybe I'll just have to spray it until it blows up...I'll be sure to get it on tape!

what is so much crappier about the tpi engines than the LT1 engine regarding the rotating assembly?

its pretty much common practice to hit the LT1's with a 150....

I hit mine with a 150 for a little while. 5-6 bottles ran trhough it before I sold the kit and started rebuilding the car, motor was still in awesome shape with the exception of a small tear in the headgasket on 1 cylinder. Considering how many times the car had overheated on me when sorting out cooling issues, and also considering I had 170k miles, I was impressed.

Good info im looking to do the same thing but im probably going to beat on mine with a 150 shot. Stock 92 bottom end. But mines a roller motor with 10,000 miles since rebuild. Stock rods, stock crank and hyper pistons. From what i have read if u keep fuel too it you will be ok. One of the guys localy here bought a cheapy rebuilt 307 from a local machine shop. Put his fogger setup on it. And main lined it they went through over 30 bottles on this stock motor and it never blew then they threw it in a buddies car and the motor is still running strong with over 200,xxx miles on it.

I do not see a problem with spraying a 100 shot on this motor.
Just spend the extra money and do it right. You will enjoy it.

Sorry,
Buy the extra needed accessories to make the system fuction properly.such as a heater, nitrous pressure gauge and purge.
Safety wise buy the window switch and fuel pressure safety switch.
Most people buy the NX GENx2 kit for there accessories. It will save you some money buying it as a kit instaed of buying the accessories seperate. It has a automatic heater, nitrous pressure gauge, fuel pressure safety switch, purge, nhra valve and blow down tube.

MSD makes two window switches.THe older one that uses plug in modules and the new digital one.

BMN also make a nice window switch with a firts gear lock out option. It uses dip switches instead of plug in modules.

Hey is NX the ones making the perimeter spray plate system? Ive heard the design works a lot better for a dual plane manifold to even out the shot. If its NX then i might be talking to u pretty soon about a setup.

I saw a show on tv where a guy took a junkyard sbc 350 and was testing to see how much nitrious it would take. He sprayed a 500 shot at it before it blew. So i would say 150 shot would be perfectly safe.

Typically, somewhere in the 300hp or so range you start hitting the point were a stockish small block will not ingest all the N2O that you’re throwing at it. You’ll actually see it coming out the top of the carb…

isnt it safer to run multiple stages than a big shot? I have a stock motor with cast pistons, and I'm going to spray 125-150 in 2 or 3 stages (1 50 hp system, 1 75 hp system, both = 125) hopefully it will hold.

125hp isn't a "BIG SHOT".

BTW, I sprayed my 100k mile cast piston stock rebuild bottom end with a 125 shot and had no problems whatsoever. You should be fine with a 100 shot. Enjoy

I’ve sprayed something in the range of 175hp at a set of stock hypereutectic pistons… one of the NX guys has done a 2 stage, 150 and 100 or 125 shot on a stock engine.

your bottom end should definetly hold, be sure to check the plugs after a pass to make sure you are getting a good fuel distribution, i have had some minor issues with a dual plabne and nos. don't forget to back off teh timing and step down the plugs.

i was thinking about adding N02 to my car also but i'm curious on how large of a shot my motor could take? this is whats done to it so far...

1972 350 4 bolt main.(0.030" over)
zero-decked and clearanced for 400 crank.
Eagle rotating assembly with cast steel 3.75" crank.
Eagle SIR Lightweight I-beam rods.
KB hypereutectic -7cc flat top pistons(10.9:1 with 64cc).
clevite 77 rod and main bearings.
premium plasma moly cast iron rings.
camshaft is 234/244 and .488/.510 hydraulic
weiand intake topped with edeljunk 750 cfm.
hooker super comp long tubes and 3 inch dual chambered mufflers.
now for the heads, i have a set of dart pro1 215cc, 2.05/1.6, heads picked out. but i'm unsure of what compression ratio i want to run yet so i haven't decided on 64cc(10.9:1) or 72cc(i think 9.7:1). that decision will be made later.

thanks in advance!

whitelightining, I'd say your setup could take a 200-250 shot with ease.

oh wow... you think it'd take that much? at which compression ratio would it take that with the 9.7:1 or the 10.9:1? either way the heads will be aluminum... with a 200 shot that would put me around 650 on the juice.... what kind of 1/4 times would that put out roughly? providing decent traction. also a few quick questions about the juice, roughly whats the price on a 10 lb. bottle fill? and how many quarter passes will a 10 lb. bottle yield?
