porting your own heads
okay so hear is the deal i posted something about my 350 with 305 heads the other day and was told to get the 14101081 casting well it turns out that there are a set of those heads on my 305 thats in my car now so i will be removing them and switching engines so i was wondering if it would be a good idea to port them myself while they are out or if it is just a headache considering they are cast iron please give me some feedback or a how to or just call me stupid for even considering it im sure it will all help.

You aren't gonna brake your budget if you go junkyard hunting and get yourself some TPI heads. I don't know the numbers, they may be the numbers listed above, but they are worth it. They make an improvement just swapping them to a 305 with TBI that you can feel. You won't spend much money; it will just take time to find them - but you CAN FIND THEM. Take your time now while stuff is apart.

Holy cow.... Thanks Five7, sometimes it's painful to watch...
Yes port them yourself. Read the thread by sitting bull, and posts by F-bird'88 and the others that have posted about it. Cast iron is just fine to port. It's worth it.

On the Board is this forum called "FAQ" - that stands for "Frequently Asked Questions". In it you'll find posts about things that are often asked - such as, "Differences between 305's and performance tips". Interestingly enough, you'll find information about what heads are the best to use, porting them, etc., etc., etc.
Another tactic is a simple search for things such as "416", "081", "181", "601", "porting", etc. Amazing what will come up.
