Flat tappet cam in roller engine? Will it work?

Engine: building a 383 as of Feb. 09
Transmission: 700 R4, B&M shift kit
Axle/Gears: 3.23?
Flat tappet cam in roller engine? Will it work?

I am having some trouble finding info if a hyd flat tappet cam will work in a roller engine. I decided to go with a 1 piece seal (roller cam) block for my 383 build but don't know if I can put my cam in there and have it work. My searches havn't led me to any real answers. Thanks

its no different than the 88 to 95 truck motors they have flat tappet cams/lifters in a "roller block"

i believe you have to grind a little for a true double roller timing chain though (11,12,1 o clock of cam tunnel ) so it doesnt rub the block

Thanks. I guess I should have stated that the block I can get my hands on is from a 96 suburban. Any problems with that?

You do have to grind on the block to get the double roller to fit....the top oil passage sticks out just a bit.....

only difference with that short block and the ones i mentioned is the crank sensor
i believe you can separate the tone ring from the crank and use a regular timing cover

is that all you have of this motor ...the block?????

All I would be taking from that engine is the block. That is what the salvage yard said they had available and ready. They have a bunch of two peice seals ready to go. I might just go with that. I was thinking of using my L98 block but wanted to keep the engine complete for selling.

keep your flexplate/flywheel then
1 and 2 piece cranks have different bolt patern
