well if you had a 350 in there before it will be a breese if your doing it your self everything will bolt right up just make sure you get a center bolt engine if thats what you had before or the intake, valve covers, won't work, the other thing is your sending units, make sure your new block has these options, if you do it your self, motor and all about $2000.00 for a standard 350, gaskets, fluids ect.
well my original is a 305 TPI so what else would need to be done I mean I got a quote in somewhere's between 1900-2200 plus the install from a shop...but they keep wanting to steer me towards the original 305.,..what gives guys

What's your motivation for this? Is the 305 shot, or do you just want more power?
The shop is probably worried about how the 350 will run when all you're doing is taking the 305 longblock out and bolting all your 305 stuff onto a 350. Things like a TPI that is restrictive to a 305. Injectors that should be larger for a 350. Exhaust that is restrictive to a 305. Knock sensor, ECM, etc.
Or, maybe they just don't know what they're doing. Or, they think they are being asked to do something illegal. Or they don't think you know what you want. How many places have you asked?

well my 305 Motor is more or less shot I'm about to throw a bearing rod or somethin it runs but chatters like a bitch there's enough oil in it and everything it's just runnin very very poor there's alot of friction i feel in the engine and it needs to be replaced.....I'm just looking for a bit more power over my stock 305 (LB9) V8 ,....I'd rather have a 350 because of the power i could get out of it....My car is'nt that old the rear end has held up very nicely...my car's been sitting in the garage and it has developed an rear end leak at the wheel but those are just the seals/gaskets that need to be replaced and i'm pretty sure it's not the bearings......but that would hold up fine......also the transmission would hold up fine....I'm gonna need a new trans pan but that's more or less it.....I think that the shop i called feel it would'nt be emission legal....and I'm sayin either they don't know how to do it that well or what i don't know.....I'm gonna call a few other places... maybe i'll call a dealership of some sort...I had called oldsmobile dealership and they actually put in GM motors like Ramjets and all that put I'm not lookin for no ramjet.....just somethin with a little more kick......but if it's outta my price range then i'll go back with the 305

umm, they might be hesitant because from what i hear, new york has some pretty strict emissions regulations? in terms of just reusing the 305 tpi stuff on the 350, i know for a fact you'll have to find a set of 350 injectors (22lbs/hour), as your 305 uses 19 lb/hr injectors, and if used on a 350, will cause the 350 to run lean. you may have to change a few pieces such as a knock sensor, etc. i'm not sure about that. but the injectors are the only thing that come to mind, i'm merely reiterating what i've read from other posts, and books that i've read.
if you can afford just a basic 350 crate motor, that may make you emissions legal.
or if you can get lucky and score a newer year engine than your 1987, that will be emissions legal.
good luck, and i hope it works out for you
