RETRO FIT ROLLER CAM

I have a question on how to instal a retro fit roller cam into a oldstyle block. I know its the same concept slip the cam in done deal not hard but how do i set the thrust is there to be any play? or none at all? nylon button? or aluminum? or does it matter? do i use a locking plate to hold the button into place? any answers would be very much appreciated. 86 corvette engine dont like flat tappet.

I run a cloyes two piece timing cover that comes with a built in button. You just set it to zero end play and then being aluminum when the motor gets hot you get your needed end clearance.

The button is adjustable with an allen key. It comes with instructions and gaskets.

Won't fit a short pump though without spacers.

Re: RETRO FIT ROLLER CAM

I had the Comp XR270HR retro in a '77 350 block. At first i used the timing set and button that Comp supplied in the kit but ended up switching to a noisy gear drive and just used the button that came with it. never had any problems...

Re: RETRO FIT ROLLER CAM

I have a similar problem... Does a cam button work with a stock timing cover? Got an '88 roller block but the stock retainer plate won't work with my new Lunati cam, apperantly it's a retrofit-type and is flat on the front, like an old flat tappet style.

Why don't you just get the proper cam?

Re: RETRO FIT ROLLER CAM

I didn't want to wait/send it back, but I decided that was the best thing to do so I sent it back. Ordering a regular roller cam from lunati tomarrow. Sucks because I didn't know it was a retrofit until I tore into my daily driver....
