hello everyone , another sad story motor swap. i currently havent been able to drive my 89 camaro for about 6 months thanks to a crappy mechanic and alot of headaches. i swapped out the old tbi for a 350 tpi and havent been able to start the car ever since, i recently just had fuel to the motor and still cant get it to start. i am not too good at working on cars so ive been getting hired help for the time being, this has not been cheap, is there any one on here living close to bell ca? i am in need of help and would appreciate all the advice u guys can offer

Re: motor swap turned nightmare!!!
yes unfortunately the fuel circuit did not have power until today. thanks to a briged wire that is sending voltage to the fuel relay

the symptoms are as follows, the car cranks over but will not turn. i have been stuck at this for a couple of months now, i am thinking of just buying a new harness and having it installed so i can start fresh, would anyone recommend this, also i was told that the computer might be a problem , is a 7165 computer compatible with this engine? its a 5.7 tpi maf with a 700r tranny

it could be if you are not using the right prom theres a 305tpi prom and a 350tpi prom and they would use the same computer also it could be your Vats system have you checked if your injectors are getting pulse in other words are your injectors spitting gas, are you getting spark?

Re: motor swap turned nightmare!!!
is better if you buy one unless you have programmers and know how to unlock the one you have, but before you start throwing money on the car check and double check everything you have works and is compatible also check your distributor and make sure your engine is top dead center otherwise you might be 180 degrees off and engine wont fire up, theres so many thing you need to rule out

Re: motor swap turned nightmare!!!
you cant check the timing if it doesnt fire, what i mean by top dead center is that the rotor on the dist is pointing to the 1 cyl when its on its compression stroke and the line on the crankshaft balancer is on 0

you can tell if the distributor is atleast not 180 degrees backwards cause when it's 180 degrees off it makes a noise similar to a plunger... recheck spark in each cylinder, ground it to bare metal that you aren't touching, then check injectors.
Even if your timing is significantly off, it should sputter when you crank it.

Re: motor swap turned nightmare!!!
true but if the engine is not at tdc and the dist is way off the engine just wont fire, if its off it ill either backfire or fired and stall right away but checking each cylinder is a good idea to start with,
