Re: one wire alternator?

Depending on what accessories you are running will determine the amp watt size you will want to go with. I would go to the parts store and ask for a alternator say 76 camaro with a 350. from the mid 70 to around 84 or so the 10 si was used in cars and trucks. just connect the red wire to the output post and the white wire would go to he idiot light if you have one or want too hook it up.
you can use a plug like this and wire it into a 1 wire.

Re: one wire alternator?

yup, if you need more amps ask for one for a truck or a car with a/c or power windows. the 10si ones ore cheap, but will will have to proabaly have to eat the core charge or bring back this one later and they may not notice its a old external regulator one.

Re: one wire alternator?

The output post will go to the horn relay or the starter or directly to the battery. Your other connection will be from the regulator to the output post. Do a search do 10si schmatic or wiring

So you just basically connect them both to the same positive battery terminal?

Re: one wire alternator?

post 2 of the alternator to the the alternator output stud. Than a wire from the output to the battery. depending on the amp output decide the gauge to run. I would use a 6 or larger. you can reclock this alternator if needed.

i have installed many of the one wire delco alternators. all you have to do is rev the engine above 1000 rpm and it will start charging.

Re: one wire alternator?

yours in the pic is a dn series external regulator. If you need to reclock a 10 si it is easy just take out the four casing bolts and turn it just don't pull it back or you will need to install a paper clip to retain the brushes to reassemble.

Re: one wire alternator?

you would might need to reclock a si if the plug is not accessible. looks like you will need a shorter belt too. were did the stock alternator go? if this thing is fuel injected you need at least a 100amp.

Re: one wire alternator?

It's carbed. I do need a shorter belt. I got a smaller water pump pulley then what was original, so the alternator is way over. This is the alternator that was with the motor in the last vehicle.

Re: one wire alternator?

yes that is a 10si it will work, looks like its clocked ok that the terminals will be out of the way. Large post to the battery, number 2 to the fan relay there should be a brown wire originally going to the alternator. number 1 would go to the mil lamp through a resister if you chose to hook that up. Number 2 is a switched power to excite the alternator. If you want a true 1 wire you can install a low tun on exciter.

Re: one wire alternator?

Well I'm doing it as minimal as possible. The car has no wires left in it . So basically power to battery. Someone told me to jump the 2 post to the power post?

Re: one wire alternator?

I have an alternator from a 96 chevy truck it's a single wire plug with it. My original is a two wire plug. What would I have to do to get it to work on my car.

1991 Camaro with an 88 350 tbi converted to carbed.
