What do you guys think about this 383 FI crate engine

Okay, so I made a thread a while ago about bringing my car back to life. Well since she no longer requires daily driving duties I think I'm going to go more radical than just a better FI unit.

Now a key point here is that I live in a townhouse with a one car garage and a **** style HOA. Therefore, I won't be doing any of the labor myself. So the whole idea of an LS swap, especially in the area where I live (not a huge car culture) is out.

Therefore I'm thinking about this engine:
http://blueprintengines.com/index.ph...83-bp38313ctf1

I've already talked to FAST. They said my Walbro 190 should be fine to feed the unit. Also I've got part numbers for the throttle bracket and the FP regulator.

I talked to BluePrint and I was concerned about the Edelbrock RPM manifold. I like my hood and don't want to get rid of it, so I may go with the Weiand Stealth (lower profile and still smog complaint) . . . thoughts on that?

And lastly, do you guys have any ideas on how to tighten up the steering? I've been spoiled with my line of 9-3 Turbo, TL Type-S, Vette and 335i. Finally started up the Camaro this past weekend and DAMN is that steering sloppy. Don't know if anything out exist to remedy this.

Thanks for the help!

I'm not so keen on the internal engine parts - cast crank and hyper pistons, plus the heads (an unknown set to me).

I don't think changing the intake would be so hard as it looks like the injectors are integrated into the TB.

The blueprint heads arent bad. Better than the Pro Comp garbage for sure. They have published the flowrates for them and they're not AFR's but they're respectable.

Should I pay to upgrade the crank? They'll modify it, at a cost of course.

Re: What do you guys think about this 383 FI crate engine

I would see if it's an aftermarket cast steel crank or a factory cast crank. Factory style cast cranks arent as strong as aftermarket ones. For 450hp... an aftermarket cast crank will be fine naturally aspirated. Depends on the usage. Forged cranks are usually heavier... so there will, theoretically, be a slight power loss from them, so there's no point in using one unless you need it. To me around 500hp is the threshold where I'd start considering forged. 300 is where I'd make sure it's an aftermarket crank.

But Im not sure that blueprint will be very forthcoming about the nature of those cranks, even if they are aftermarket, they're probably unbranded, etc, so I wouldn't blame you for wanting to upgrade. Just see what they say about it first.

Called the tech department, they said the crank is a Scat cast and the pistons are Sealed Power Speed Pro.

Any more feedback out there? Want to do it right this time. I don't any suprises like an exploding rear end, or electronics that won't work.

Same engine, but not the same injection unit. Actually, the one you posted doesn't come with an injection unit at all.
