passing emissons with a 355 swap?
So the camaro I purchased originallly came with a 2.8 fuel injection engine.
Of course I took that out to swap it for a carbed 355. Which here in Colorado won't pass
My swap I'd is almost finished.
But emissions is A problem. How could I make this pass emissions?
I've been told that I could get the tbi parts such as the carb, intake manifold. and ecu.
Will this work? Other then that what other parts do I need?
Can I use the pump the v6 came with?
what other options do I have?
Im open to any options to get this car street legal.
Could any of you members help me come up with a shopping
List of parts I need To make work.
Any input would be very much appreciated!!

There are 4 options: (1) Use a 2.8 for inspection, use your 355 the other 364 days. (2) Make it a TPI. (3) Make it a ZZ4, per this: http://arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/devices/eo/D-278.pdf (4) register it somewhere else, keep it garaged EVERY night.

I got rid of the 2.8 so I'm screwed with that.
But what's the difference between tuned port injection and
Throttle body injection? Isn't tbi cheaper?
I could try to register it somewere else. Just don't know who
To ask for there adress.

Since when does the EPA care what's cheaper for you? They only care what's cleaner. Sure, some Police Caprices had the LO5, but a caprice is in a bigger heavier category. You might get away with it, you might not. Seriously, far cheaper to go spend $200 on another used 2.8 than to do TPI or fake a ZZ3.

You could also use a computer controlled carb setup. That would probably be the easiest. That would require a computer carb and distributor, computer harness, computer, MAP and BARO sensors, EGR spreadbore intake manifold (I have two if you're interested), EGR valve, EGR valve solenoid, snorkel air cleaner with the thermovac system, cat on the exhaust. You may or may not be able to get by without the A.I.R. system (technically, you can't).
If you put on a mechanical fuel pump for the '85 V8 application, it will include a return that would allow the V6 in tank electric fuel pump to be used. That isn't an emissions issue, though.

But by doing this would I be able to pass emissions?
If yes. You think you can help me out a bit lol?
I'm lost with computers.

Air Injection Reaction. aka, "smog pump".
85's came with computer carbs V8's. '85 Caprices came with computer carb 350s. If you can find a Caprice with a complete system, it would have everything you need.
Are you using factory exhaust manifolds, or headers?
My Berlinetta #1 was a factory V6 car. I found an '86 LG4 donor car and swapped everything over to it. When I went for the emissions test & inspection, they just scanned the VIN and looked for the equipment the machine told them it should have (it had all of those things). 2 years later, I changed the heads & cam, added headers, and it passed again. After that I swapped a 350 shortblock (happened to be a ZZ3) into it with the other things the same. I had collector plates by then, so didn't have to pass emissions anymore. I'm confident it would have passed, though.

I'd be using stock manifolds for the meanwhile. And damn that sounds like a lot
For emissions. I feel like I'm never going to get this car to be street legal.

My son got his 2001 Blazer with LS1 clone, long tube headers, lumpity cam, universal cats to pass. I never thought it would, but it did.
