First time engine pull
Hi everyone, I have a 89 RS with a 305 that needed to be pulled and rebuilt. I pulled it last night and it was my "first" engine pull on my own. It was really overwhelming with all the wire, plugs, and hoses going every which way! Lol I guess it's just something that you learn over time.

Re: First time engine pull
Most important thing is that you may or may not done already
dont take everything apart whenits in the engine bay
take off as little as posible like hoses, wires, fuel lines exhaust, and motor mounts lol
First timers i always see them tear the whole thing apart while its in there its twice as hard lol

Oh, wiring isn't all that bad. I'm sure yours doesn't look like this:

That's my LQ4 swap into a shoebox. I practiced on a couple of '82 Berlinettas before tackling this one...

Thank you everyone, it's definately a learning process... You don't learn until you try it and make mistakes.

It's really very simple. Each wire goes to one thing for one purpose (although some ground and some power wires are ganged together).
No reason to make it hard...
When you're pulling a stock engine with a stock harness, each connector can only go one place. Still a good idea to tag and label things (note the masking tape labels on my harness). I would include where they're located as well as what they are (Oil pressure switch above oil filter thermal switch in passenger head, ground wire on back of passenger head, etc.).
