v6 to v8 ECU reprogram
I'm doing a 3.1L v6 to a 350 V8 in my 91 Camaro, both are going to be MPI, I know everything I have to do with the sensors/wiring and everything under the hood for the swap, only thing I cant seem to figure out is the ECM, where/how to get it reprogrammed for my v8, because since it is OBD1 I cannot hook a computer up to it and tune it like you can with OBD2, any help would be great cause I can't really find any information on it.

Re: v6 to v8 ECU reprogram
That's because nobody does this anymore. The unavailability of the stuff to make it legal is why we all go LSx instead of trying to keep the TPI that can't make any HP anyway.
Good luck finding a TPI 350 computer, good luck rewiring for it, good luck getting a PROM chip that matches your exact combination of parts, good luck with the MemCal whatever.
Some guys are adapting the 'later LSx 0411 PCM, some guys are going with aftermarket EFI that doesn't have emissions controls, and the rest are low-mile museum cars. TPI had its day, but that's history.

All the parts are available, you just need to locate and PAY for them. 91 is an SD system using a 730 ecu. The hard part to find is the PROM. Unlike the MAF system, the knock sensor is part of the PROM and the limp home netres is also. You can run a V6 PROM if you don't care about limp home or knock control but you have to jump a couple pins on the PROM to convert to V8 control. Do a search and you will find all the info you need to make this swap. These systems are the easiest to tune as far as equipment is concerned. Other than the cable to connect your laptop, everything can be had for free. You can buy a cable cheaply or actually make one for a couple of dollars. HTH!
Before I catch sh*t for this, you need a programmer so you can modify your cal on the chip. These are relatively cheap also or you can go full blown and get a real time flash based setup from Moates that will allow you to tune on the fly so to speak. It's all up to what you want to spend or how much time your willing to put into erasing and programming chips.

Re: v6 to v8 ECU reprogram
What do you mean the knock sensor would be ineffective using my current prom, wouldnt that mess up the spark control since the knock sensor retards the timing if it hears a knock/ping/detonation
Re: v6 to v8 ECU reprogram
Yea it'll Will disable it knock control.I did a 6 to 8 swap and used the v6 prom and had it retuned and the knock controller disabled and didn't have a problem with it. Some people gave me crap for it saying the motor will blow but my thought process at the time was my non ecu carbed motor hasn't blown why would this and I only spent $50 to have it done

Re: v6 to v8 ECU reprogram
is there any aftermarket chips I could get? or do I need to buckle down and search all over the state for a ecu, I don't want to loose knock control
