LM7 into a 88 trans am GTA - Need some part advice

Hello!
I'm coming back to this project after a while and I have to admit that I'm a bit lost. I think i've read pretty much every thread on here, but I'm still very unsure on the next steps.

I have a complete LM7+4L60 from a 2000 Suburban with all of the accessories and electronics. So far I've bought a harmonic balancer for a 4th gen F-body which may have been a mistake. I've also bought a UMI performance K-Frame (240131-R). But this kind of where I'm stuck at. I need to buy a new waterpump and I was thinking of buying one for a 4th gen fbody as I saw on a post here somewhere this would give me the most clearance in the front.

My question is this: Can I use the 4th gen balancer and water pump with the rest of the truck accessories? I know for example both Holley and ICT billet offer all sorts of brackets and adapters. I'm happy to return or sell the balancer and go with a complete truck setup if necessary as long as it doesn't cause me any issues.

You can't. The LS1 and LM7 used different spacings. Reference this thread:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...nt-engine.html

There's a couple of options though. You can use the LS3 water pump, which has the correct spacing, and also moves the upper hose to the front to not interfere with a lower intake. If you're worried about space in front of the engine, you'll need to swap everything up front. The Corvette had even tighter spacing.

Thank you pirateofms, that thread is really helpful. So I guess i'll go with the truck water pump and dampener. I should be good (in terms of hood clearance) with a relocation bracket for the alternator, do you know?

I should also mention that I've also bought the UMI performance K-frame (UPI-240131-R), so that should give me some extra room for the alternator relocation.

Well, maybe I'll just go with the full f-body setup (after seeing this thread). According to that thread, I'd need to swap out: "Crank pulley, Waterpump, tentioner, powersteering pump, PS Bracket, Alternator bracket, Alternator, Idler pulley & Belt." which I guess isn't too bad. I'll probably just remove the A/C and save some money there.

You can make the truck accessories work but it is far easier to put together a 4th gen set-up. I am not sure what your budget is but there are all kinds of aftermarket options as well. However, you should be able to scour the LS1tech's of the world and piece together an OEM system.

yeah, I think i'll go that route. I'm trying to keep this as low budget as possible as I'm based in Iceland and shipping + import tax makes everything crazy expensive. That being said, I'm no expert mechanic (only a youtube mechanic ) so I think i'll take the easy route.

The truck oil pan won't fit your car either. Or rather, even if it does, it'll hang down so low it might even scrape the ground.

Might want to spend a little time at ls1tech.com and performancetrucks.net. All of this gets talked about rather ALOT in those places; no sense in asking questions one at a time and fumbling around in the dark, when it's all right there already.

I've already spent so much time on there and here. There's so much information that it can be hard to absorb. I already have more information saved on my hard drive then I can go through. I know this is a question that has been asked over and over again, I just wanted to make sure. As I said, shipping and tax makes buying the wrong part a very expensive mistake; better safe than sorry.

I already have a low profile oil pan (and a bunch of other stuff) I just got stuck on the accessory part for whatever reason.

Depending on your plans for the build you can use the truck water pump, balancer, power steering and alt. You just need to buy the correct brackets from ict billet or the vender of your choice to rearrange the PS and ALT.

LS3 water pump is the same as truck spacing, Or you can run a water pump spacer with the cheaper fbody pump in truck spacing. This engine has the R4 ac compressor bracket in truck offset

Thanks punkmaster98 for your input! I guess costwise this would be the same, as the cheaper pump + spacer kit would be around the same price (or more) as the truck pump. However, the angle of the inlet/outlet neck seems better on the f-body pump. The fbody one sticks out 90 degrees (towards the radiator) while the truck one goes up (towards the hood) and into a 45 ish degree angle.

Maybe it doesn't matter at all?

Are either of the pics from your own build?

There are many different LS3 water pumps which went on various platforms with different spacing. Camaro, SS, Vette LS3's all had different spacing.
So purchase accordingly.

Yes these are vehicles I have worked on. Sometimes the owners will opt against my suggestion and go with a different option to stay within a budget. Will it work yes but for peace of mind sometimes the other option is better.
