Sbc 350 swap

Hello!

I'm going to swap an early 70s 350 SBC into my ’91 Camaro with a 305 TBI. I have everything pretty well figured out regarding the swap except for the oil pan.
Can I use the original oil pan with a driver-side dipstick? Does it have enough clearance for the K-member, etc.?
If it doesn't fit, is there a good replacement oil pan for a 2-piece rear main seal with a driver-side dipstick?

Nope. You're original pan is both a 1 pc rear main seal pan (which won't work with your 2 piece rear main seal 70's 350) and a passenger side dipstick. The dipstick is on the opposite side, for the older 350 engine.

It would...if it would fit the engine.

Tons. To be SURE, source a pan for an '82-'85 Firebird or Camaro w/a 305. That will fit your 350 engine, and fit your car.

Re: Sbc 350 swap

Since you have the pan off the 70s engine just compare the sump depth .it should work unless from c3 . Melodon make a replacement pan or get one off rock auto for a 70s truck drivers side dipstick.

make sure you look up the specs of that engine... probably has the same if not less HP then the 305 youre replacing..

would be a real waste of time and money to do it

Re: Sbc 350 swap

Not too many 350's had less than 170 hp. The swap is totally worth it (if the doner is good) for:
Better tq and drivability
Future modding.

Re: Sbc 350 swap

The "new" 350 already has an oil pan, but I'm wondering if the original oil pan from a 1970s 350 fits into a 1991 Camaro. I meant the original oil pan from the 1970s engine.

The 350 has been rebuilt with new pistons, a better cam, heads, etc. It should be better than the 305 TBI, at least.

Re: Sbc 350 swap

Depends on how you define "many" ... there were MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of 70s 350 2-bbl POSs with 160 or 165 HP. CERTAINLY MORE THAN there were that made more than that. For that matter the L48 (std 4-bbl) such as came in Vettes, Z28s, etc. was only worth about 180. Those motors, in stock trim or anywhere close (*cough* heads *cough*), were a STEAMING TURD. OF course, you can take any 350 BLOCK, even one with a 75 Impala 160HP 2-bbl stamping code, and with appropriate pistons, heads, cam, intake, exhaust, and so on, get an ENGINE - something else altogether - that makes 600 HP or more out of it. Given that VIRTUALLY ANY "early 70s 350 SBC" will have been "rebuilt", probably more than once, it's anybody's guess what this d00d is getting, since he didn't tell us that.

Some do, some don't.

Depends on which one. One from A, G, or F body will. B body or truck will not. Not sure about Y body butt I'm pretty sure it won't either.

The stock driver's side dipstick will not clear the stock exhaust manifolds in our cars.

Dorman 264104 listings for first get f body and early c10 truck should work. If you have dipstick issues lokar makes a flexible one .
