Question about edelbrock headers.

I had planned on getting hedman headers and their y pipe until I found out I can get the edelbrock TES headers with the 3'' y pipe for 250$ so Im gonna do that. I know I need to plug the A.I.R and the o2 sensor hole.

Ive read some posts about the edelbrock headers not fitting to great. I havent had any problems with hedman or hooker so far. anyone have any more feedback on this?

I remember reading some posts saying that these headers actually hit the steering colum. Ive had both hedman and hookers and they both came nowhere close to the steering colum.

I am probably going to go ahead and get these headers along with a hooker catback. I was gonna get hooker 2055s but i can get the TES for 100$ less so Im gonna go with them,

hmm..

I just pulled my drivers side header out and re-installed it in about and hour ( Edelbrock TES on a 84 L69).

So easy to install. I don't know how these guys are hitting their steering columns.

You WILL NOT MAKE AS MUCH POWER WITH THESE THOUGH. SPEND THE EXTRA CASH AND GET THE HOOKERS!!!!

My TES fit fine, didn't hit the column, removing the plugs helped. I'd get the Hooker's too.

I put the TES on my car and I agree, they went on well, and fit nice. I did have a world or trouble getting the passenger side to seal properly to the Y pipe. I even heard that Edelbrock redesigned that side so it wouldn't leak, but that may have been a rumor.

After a few years it finally gave up the fight and sealed itself, mostly.

Sounds like you're not going to use the emmisions stuff nor the O2 sensor right? So why get headers that have ports for the AIR system and O2 sensor?

Get these shorty headers from Hedman......
Part #500-68470 through Jeg's for $109.99

Then get the Y-pipe........ Part #500-17470 for $100.99.

Those total are ~$211, and you don't have to do anything but install them. I don't think they even have a place for the O2 sensor that you have to plug.

The footnotes at www.hedman.com do say "Must modify rotary A/C bracket." whatever they mean by 'rotary'? I thought they all were rotary. I've never seen a reciprocating compressor, have you?

AJ

I've got a 305 tpi motor and I just found edelbrock tes headers on on Jeg's web site for $341.99 coated. And there is an additional $5.99 oversize handling charge. I don't plan on changing out the 305 anytime soon, so hopefulyl there won't be any horsepower loss wit ha 305. But when the 305 does go, it will be replaced with a 350 because they are more common place and cheaper to build than a 305. But for now the 305 is strong and healthy, so I will probably go with the coated edelbrocks.

Here is a link to the product page.

P.S. I jsut called Jeg's and these are coated with the nickel coating, and not the jet hot coating. They have a 1 year gaurantee on the coating.

Unfortunatley I do need emisions legal. I've got 7 more years to get the car tested before it's too old to not require testing. But on the bright side, I don't have to have my 80 pickup with the 468 in it tested anymore!!! Got home from the LAST test and ripped off the air pump. I hated how that thing sounded on my pickup.

Funny, my pickup without cats passed easily. I really can't understand how it did without the cats, but I guess you just accept the small gifts in life that are handed to you and move on.

You cant get the edelbrock TES or the hooker 2055 headers without the AIR or o2 sensor bung. I have a set of hooker comp headers already that do not have AIR or anything on them. I need to call around and see if any shops around here can make a decent Y pipe. Last time i had a custom y pipe made it turned out horrible....nastiest piece of exhaust ive ever seen.

Like I said I already have 2 sets of headers...just dont know if i can get either one to work or not. The hooker shorties I have are ready for painting. Been sandblasted and everything.

I dont wanna get the hedman shorties with their y pipe...ive heard the y pipe is crap.

Ive never seen a header even come close to the steering shaft...maybe I will just send my hooker shorties in to be jet hot coated and have a y pipe made...I know they fit fine because they were on the car for along time.
