header advice on install

well since the search engine is down!!! i have been installing my headers...or i should say destalling my exhaust manifolds...
anyway it took me forever to get the passengerside on off!!!!
i have only 3 or 4 bolts to go on the drivers side!!! one of my biggest problems is one of the y pipe bolts stripped and the socket keeps sliding off!!! very agervating!!! i also had to destroy most of the air system because they would not unscrew and all all the wrenches i tried kept sliding off and messing up the heads of the bolts. oh well i wasn't going to reuse it anyway!!! well if anyone has any good install tips for me i would apreciate it!!

That would be fine, as long as you don't mind going through all this again to replace the exhaust gasket you're about to burn/blow out.

When I put mine in, as far as the bolts in the rear were concerned, I used the smallest wrench that I had (that would fit the bolt, of course!) and it took a little while due to the cramped space back there. With the engine in the car, there is not much else you can do.

bolt not going in

92rsv8, yeah i know how it fell like, i have a 88 caprice at work that i'm trying to get the passenger side off. it have AC
anyway i stipped 1 bolt, got 3 off, 1 left to go.

Get a Tap and use it in the hole you have trouble, this will clean, and *fix* the problem, i dont know but maybe you could also try some lube on the bolt (not sure if it a good idea, maybe the lube will "Cook" with the heat and be a pain to remove, or maybe not)

I'll put header on the T/A this summer YAAAYY!!

Good Luck

I would recommend using some penetrating oil on the threads of the bolts before screwing them in. All the bolts on my car went in hard but the oil helped. Also the last bolt on the passenger side didn't go all the way in when it finally got tight. Had to put a washer from one of the exhaust manifold bolts on there.

I used a 3/8 tap, squirted some wd-40 in all the holes, and chased all of them out. It was amasing the crap that i cleaned out.

Noticed that you were from there.. I used to make deliveries (Mr. Tuxedo)to Yogi' men's store on the strip. I think it was called the Country Squire or something similar.
