I have the hooker long tube supercomps and had to buy short plugs. One of my plugs #7 is hitting the header. I bought the plug shields--expensve ones for 90 a set, but I started my car and saw the plug arcing out on the headers the other day. I have two more options, one get header wrap and two bang a dent in the header. Denting is the final option. Will the header wrap prevent the arcing- does it conduct electricity? Any suggestions on a brand that will withstand the high temp of the headers?

 

Are the plug boots 90 degrees? If not get some 90 degree plug boots.

Yes they are 90 degress...Im wondering if mabe a 135 degree boot will work?

 

get soem accell header plugs...they are shorter then normal ones so u get osme extra clearence...the autozone by my house carries them

1) buy shorter plugs
2) try different angle plug boots
3) find better sleeving, I had a similar problem and bought some sleeving that was $13 for two fitted 6 or 9" 1500 degree pieces, and it has worked fine for two years, many plug changes, and two engines.

 

I bought the shortest plugs possible for my application and Dart Pro 1 heads.. I also bought the boot shields a set of 8... I may try a 135 degree boot, 90 and 180 dont work well.

 

Put a little header wrap around them. I've heard that can help.

 

Just ordered my header wrap today. I hope this will work.

 

I would consider shortening the spark plug like phil87iroc did. I think that this would be the best solution.
