Header leak HELP!
I just had a new motor put in with SLP headers, and there is a leak on both the passenger and driver side. i can hear it, which sounds like crap, and i can also see the carbon fiber on the block. the whole thing is leaking just one spot on both sides. i had new gaskets put on and the bolts are in as far as they go. so what the hell. how can i fix this. i was just thinking of just using jb weld to stop the leak cause i know i'm never going to take them off, at least in the near future. but is there any other way where i can fix this? any help is greatly appreciated thanks.

Hmm, since you've retightened the bolts. Are the headers hitting anything, so they're not sealing well?
I just installed long tubes and I think they're contacting with something, and not sealing properly, as I have an exhaust leak.

the only thing in the way was the steering column, so the headers had to be flattened a little for clearance, but other than that they shouldn't be hitting anything else. this is really upsetting me cause i paid all that money for slp headers, and they only caused problems. they don't fit like slp says they do and know the damn leak. oh well there has to be some way to fix it. good luck with your leak

did you install the headers before the y-pipe or did u tighten down the headers after you put on the y-pipe? y-pipe could be causing the problem. or, make sure the gaskets are the right way and that the head ports are smoth so it will make good contact.

loosen the y-pipe from the headers and then tighten them down the best you can, then put the y-pipe back on, if it doesnt line up very well and its a pain to get back on then thats probably your problem

I had a similar problem with my Hooker longtubes. I bit the bullet & bought Earl's header gaskets. They are made of aluminum with thicker graphite inserts. They sealed a 1/16" gap on mine.

The SLP header gaskets work fine for me. My problem was the bolts they give you which were probably made in 1953.. get some Stage 8 locking header bolts and new gaskets and you should be ok.
If you can see black exhaust on the heads then it's too late, you need new gaskets, sorry.
BTW make sure you get the 1" not 3/4" length bolts...
