Edelbrock T.E.S. headers question

I just got the Edelbrock T.E.S headers for my 92 GTA w/ dual cat. Has there been any problems with these headers in installing them or any leaking problems. I wanna to know, so I can be ready for when I get them in.
Thanx,
PsychoGTA:lala:

I have TES headers also on my Formula which has dual CATS. Over all I like them. There not the biggest diameter ones out there but you will noticed a difference after the swap... I did a little more low end grunt mainly. Main thing is to just go slow install them. Oh and make sure you lube up the O2 sensor threads it'll be nice down the road when you have to change it.

Oh and don't get use to the black paint on them. That's only to protect the headers in shipping... after about 15 minutes after the motor is fired up it'll fall right off. If you want to paint them strip all the paint off them first... I tried to just paint them with 1500 degree paint (2 coats even) and it peeled right off... guess I should have read the instructions... hehe

I've had some problems with gaskets in the collectors blowing and burning up. But that's just minor stuff I guess. You'll more than likely have that with any header... also you can't find dead soft alumin. gaskets for the TES since there donut style.

Over all I like them... but I do wish I had gone with something with a little better primaries.

same here. however i haven't had any problems with gaskets, burnt wires or loose bolts. and yes it's a noticeable SOTP difference.

Ive never had any complications with my TES headers, and I got the ceramic coating, so I would not know about the whole paint thing. They sound good, are good for a few ponies, and look great, as well as simple installation and hassle free operation. I went with the copper gaskets, as the ones that come with it are more likely to blow out.

I just installed a set on my 88 camaro. I got the single 3'' slip on cat ones tho.

Install of the headers was easy. Paint is gone already. Using the supplied gaskets because I spent every dollar I had on them ($300 dollar with my discount )

It was a PITA to install the y pipe for some reason. Maybe because I was very very stressed out.

They are good headers...Ive had a set of hooker shorties on my car. Definetly bigger but the edelbrocks seem a tad more user friendly in some cases. I had some hedman longtubes when I was running duals and those things were pretty nice for 109$.

The edelbrock Y pipe is nice. I looked at the old stock Y pipe and went WOW. This is nice lol.

Im happy with my TES and my hooker catback. Car seems so quiet now compared to what it used to be.

was kinda crazy that I bought a 300$ set of headers took them out of the box, cut the air tubes with a hacksaw, screwed bolts into them, then JB welded the screws in.

I guess my friends dont call me the modifier for nothing.

I like my new found ground clearance. I havent been able to take a speed bump because I had duals on it. Now I can. Its nice.

Id recommend the TES to anyone they are nice. I have the way the pass side header is made tho. Whats up with the #2 primary running like it does?

I do wish that they would run the tubes differently, but they work well for me. The Y-pipe was the toughest part of the install, mainly because I tossed out the butter fly valve, not thinking I would need it for the headers. A straight pice of pipe fixed that though, and soon I was on the road again! I would recommend them for looks, install, sound and power. I love mine and would never go any other way.

i agree except the only thing i dont like is how the size of the primaries decreases at the collectors. in other words they dont retain their 1 5/8" size all the way down. but i was told this should affect the flow of air very little, if at all.

i'm using regular size Bosch platinum plugs. although i haven't tried takin 'em off yet, looks like there is enough room to fit a regular plug socket on them.

I have a set of delcos on mine right now. You can access all the drivers side easy but you cannot fit a socket on 2 of the ones on the drivers side. The delco plugs are long tho.

I think Im gonna pull the headers back off sunday and give them a nice coat or 2 of high temp. Since they are grey now.

Stupid question. What kind of gaskets do i need for these headers. Like what kind of ports and what size do i need. And what size of Stage 8 lockin bolts do i need. If you guys can point me to the right way. It will be cool.
Thanx,

As far as plugs go, I run AC platnum, and have changed them out since the install. It went well, there was only a tight spot at #7, 4, and 6. Overall, it was no harder than a car with air on the manifolds. For the plug wire however, I used MSD shrouding along the whole wire, then on top of that used the heat shield self-vasculizing tape at the plug boot. With just bare wires, Im afraid I would burn through them in a hurry.

As far as gaskets go, I went with the Mr. Gasket copper seal gaskets, and have had absolutely no leaks or blow outs. I would not suggest the use of paper gaskets for any exhaust manifold or header.

i agree about the y-pipe being a pita to install.... particulary on the drivers side where the y -pipe meets the header (collector) that 2 bolt flange could be a lil better..... but i will say that i really like havin the heades on there though definite butt dyno improvement

yeah i had problems with my y-pipe as well the drivers side didnt want to line up exact even though i had everything loose still didnt want to line up. Another prob i ran into was where the end of the y-pipe where it meet up to the cat wasnt pointing in the general area about 40 degrees off so i had to bust out the torch and straighten it out. I did use the espestos(spelling) gaskets my dad said i should be fine as long as i check the bolts for the first week every day, and once and a while after that.other than lube up all bolts with wd-40 prior to removing them so less chane of stripping them lude up the stearing shaft bolts and where it slids in real good this will make the header slip right in. the passenger side is a pita but not as bad as i though after i get pissed and start manhadling it, went right in. You prob will have to get a new fan switch since i think most everybody breaks them when taking out the stock headers try to get a lower temp if you can and you may need a new o2 sensor i soaked mine for 2 days and stripped it out anyways it was a 1 inch box end wrench if i recall. I used just the stock plugs for now since its a stock engine i gapped then to .035 but should have gapped them at .040 for a hotter spark o well. I didnt use stage 8 bolts but really wanted to after the install, the ones that came with the headers came with lockwashers as well and seem to be holdin up well i check them and still tight.
