louder than a mustang
well, i am ordering the mac performance exhaust system and slp intake runners for my 350 tpi iroc w/dual cats. how can i get a louder sound? i mean by headers and y pipe? which would be the best with my setup that i have?? i'll take any opinions..i went to the car show at bk this weekend(manassas) and i heard alot of loud mustangs and a friends cobra and i have to say it sounded sooo nice..and i was just wondering what headers and y pipe i could get to give me a little more rumble

Well, any headers will make it sound better than a Mustang. The more air that moves through an engine, the louder it can be. The runners will complement the headers/Ypipe. If you arent worried about emissions, go with the Hooker Longtube 2210 headers with the Mufflex Ypipe....into your cat-back. Then put a ZZ4 cam in it.....it will sound MUCH better than a Mustang.
lol well actually my parents want me to pass emissions when the time comes lol but what is the difference between the headers you just mentioned and others? are they louder? and i dont know that much about headers but i have 500 to spend on a y pipe and headers i need some opinions? thanks for the info you just gave me though

if you have to pass emissions...then you need the SLP headers for dual cat cars.....They have all the AIR fittings and O2 sensor bung. And they are stainless steel......Thats what I would choose....

Yes they come with a Ypipe.....check out www.slponline.com for pricing. No, the sensor(o2) doesnt affect the exhaust note...neither do the AIR tubes. Depending on where you live, you could pass emissions with headers that do not have the AIR fittings.....it just depends if they have a visual inspection where you live. If they do not...you could go with Hedmann shortie headers or Hooker 2460's and have a Ypipe made to connect to your cats. A straight pipe in place of the cats will make it louder also. ANd, if you put a Flowmaster "Y" collector after the cats...and attach it to the catback...that will help with flow...and sound. Good luck....

Im not exactly sure...but I think the SLP dual catheaders come with header pipes that connect to your Cats.....(the pipes that run from the manifolds to your cats now). You will probably just need to weld up the pipes into your cats......unless you plan on running straight pipes in place of the cats. If you decide to do that, have a good muffler shop weld a flange onto each end of the cat and your Ypipe. That way you can take it off and bolt on your straight pipe, and vice versa.

if you got some good headers, and an open intake (maybe even some larger heads), get a cut out. it will bypass the muffler (or even the cats if you wish) and will be plenty loud!
I got one on my 350 TPI, got headers, and some kind of heads (not really sure), still got the stock (I assume) cats on it, and the cut out is right before the muffler. Sounds almost like a nascar:

and

sounds way better than most mustangs I have heard.

if you want LOUD just unbolt everything after your cat, or even take that off too. It's not going to sound good at all. But if you want it to sound nice with just bolt-ons, go for a full 3" exhaust... a set of headers, 3" catback, and a straight pipe in place of the cat.

Want loud? Drop your whole exhaust system, buy some Hooker long tubes, bolt those on and let 'er rip

are long tubes really louder than normal aftermarket headers? With a full exhaust system (including cutout) would long tubes be louder than short/medium tubes?
How?
How?

I said long tubes because open shorties under the hood can light things on fire, lol.
