can I run TBI headers with tpi

I found a set of shorty headers and y pipe in the year one catalog. It says they're for tbi. 1 5/8 tubes and ends at a 2 1/4 y pipe. That's the size I have now. I don't want to go 3" yet. Would this work with tpi?

Only if you and the one offering the go-ahead are willing to be cyber-slapped.

We have a saying at work when somebody insists on doing something they shouldn't (typically to someone in a position of authority) - "This is stupid." It's intended to get the person's attention so they don't continue doing what they say they intend to do in spite of previous advice to the contrary.

If you say you're still going to order these parts, I'll start the chant:

"This is stupid."

"This is stupid."

"This is stupid."

"This is stupid."

Etc.

Buy a 3" exhaust now and be done with it. It will make more power than the 2.25" even on your puny LO3. You sppend a lot of money on a full exhuast so you might as well get the most out of it. Oh and going to 3" will not cause you to lose low end power. I figureed that would be your next question. I would buy a full exhuaast that is set up for a L98 (350 TPI) car. That way you get a full 3" without and reducers or funny things that are needed to attach large pipes to exisiting pipes.

Well, it's not like I'm going to spend $400 on headers for just a 2.25 exhaust. I already have a qtec cutout and I want to keep it. I have the motor out for a replacement and just thought that headers would be better than regular exhaust manifolds. I was thinking if I could get a cheap used set.

From what I understand, TBI headers can work with TPI heads with a little modification? I am looking at a TPI conversion on my truck (350TBI) and was told I could use my Borla headers/catback with L98 heads when I decide to convert.

There isn't any modification at all. The ports on the heads are the same shape and in the same spot.

Im talking about where bolts are located.

And when I say TBI, Im talking 350 truck, not 305 Camaro (if that makes a difference).

Still no differnce. All 3rd gen headers will bolt to any small block chevy be it f body or truck or vette, etc. Size doesn't mater either ads ling as it is a small block. 283, 305, 350, 400, 383, 306 etc etc.....

If you are concerned with price, hedman makes a pair of longtubes for $130. 1 5/8 primaries with a 3" collector. Excellent quality, and they get excellent reviews. I have a pair sitting behind me, but I haven't had a chance to put them in yet. Hopefully sat

The y-pipe that goes with them doesn't exactly get rave reviews.

But, better than some out there, and probably better than what a muffler shop would fabricate.

For the Y-pipe too, I think it's a bit more money. I can't recall how much though. I never looked into it, I got an extra pipe following the first one to the rear of the car, so no need for a Y

The headers themselves look very well made though.
