I just tried installing hedman longtubes on my '85 and the left hit the slave cylinder and the bracket for it on the transmission. Also the headers come so close to the salve cyl if they don't hit that they will probably melt it from the heat. I'm in the process of trying to fit them by cutting the tubes where they parallel each other just before the collector and welding an angle into them to aim them down further to go under the slave cyl and bracket. I'll probably put some type of aluminum heat shield around the slave cyl to keep the heat away from it. Should know in a couple of days.

I'm planning on using ceramic coated so I don't think heat should be a problem, but I'm not sure. I'm also going to contact hedman to see if these headers are supposed fit our application. I saw an hedman ad in a magazine that said they are guaranteed to fit published applications. The only other thing I can think of for your clearance problem would be the condition of your motor and trans mounts.

I checked hedmans web site, the longtube headers are not designed to fit our application. I think I will just go for the headers they have listed for our application as I don't have the time or patience for that kind of modification to a brand new set of headers. I wish you luck ZIMMCHILE7. Please post some pictures when you are finished with your headers.

I'm thinking of a T5 swap so let me know how it goes. Ceramic coating seems like the only option to keep from damaging them.

I think I'll bow out and just use the shorty headers. I don't have patience to test fit and modify anything like that. Sometimes a short cut is a short cut.

I had an exhaust buddy of mine do a fairly easy mod to the long tube hedmans. He cut the primaries out about an inch from the collector and angled the collector down slightly then re-welded it. We put it in and it fit perfectly. I don't think there will be any ground clearance issues because it is still higher than the frame. Also it clears the slave cylinder by about 4 inches. By the Way, the passenger side fit perfectly with no modification. Pics will follow shortly when I get my camara back.

I used LT and work great after a little clearing with a hammer .
Here is my pic of the clearance. IT doesnt bother the slave cylinder and the boot sits on the collector with no problem

Also you can get them coated after you get the right fit.

won't the boot burn up? I drive my car every day about 7miles one way, I'm sure the collectors get pretty hot.
